Oil Spill Software for Rapid and Accurate Response Decision-making

Access our free prototype oil spill software right now, and why not meet us at IOSC 2008?

The On Scene Coordinator's Advisor for Responding to oil spills ( OSCAR™ )

Click on the On Scene Coordinator's Advisor for Responding to oil spills (OSCAR™) link to try out our leading edge, web-based, prototype application, which could save time and money by selecting the optimal cleanup option from among the various possibilities. OSCAR™, a decision support tool, demonstrates the 'proof of possibility' of Marine Oil Spill Expert Systems ( MOSES™ ) to facilitate oil spill response planning and operations by companies such as Chevron, heavily involved in energy exploration, Shell, a big offshore player, Total, the French oil and gas firm, or conservation organisations. Our software would be especially useful in remote, extremely vulnerable areas such as the Galapagos Islands, 1000 kilometres off the coast of Ecuador, where an spill could have catastrophic and irreversible effects. Click on the following link to download a peer-reviewed scientific paper about MOSES™. Also, email us and we'll send you a two-page flyer outlining the features of both MOSES™ and OSCAR™.

ITOPF technical experts responded to over 560 ship-sourced spills in a total of 93 countrties between 1972 and 2006, including many major incidents. In response to a catastrophic spill such as the 1989 Exxon Valdez Oil Spill (EVOS) ( aka "Tanker 'A' on the Rocks" ), the 1989 Erika incident off of Brittany involving a tanker under charter to Total, or the 2002 Prestige incident off of Galicia, typically the Responsible Party (RP) will draw upon a number of resources. The response might include:

Chances are, though, that at a time of crisis the RP won't have time to consult the research undertaken by MMS's Oil Spill Response Research Program, at the OHMSETT test tank, or another facility or database. Our custom-made, interactive oil spill software complements these valuable resources by commiting the lessons learned from history and rules of thumb developed over the years to the computer, making them readily accessible to responders working off a laptop computer, whether on- or off-site. These intelligent systems can:

  1. Bring a non-expert up to an expert's level of expertise
  2. Remind an expert of best practice, or
  3. Provide her with a valuable second opinion.

Try out OSCAR™ and let us know the type of custom-made oil spill response software application you require.
