Spiritual Journey Raven Rattle - 2012

(Original alder carving and acrylic paint)

(Includes marble base and metal supports)

This is an original, knife finished, carving of a raven rattle with incised designs. This raven rattle is one and a half times larger than the traditional ones. Coming from Lax Kw'Alaams, where 9 tribes gathered together, this is a symbol of what the "chief of chiefs" would use to show his wealth and power.

Raven rattles, also known as "chief's rattles", were (and still are) used for ceremonial purposes by hereditary chiefs; all the rattles were made similar in form and size (about 12" in length), with the respective design styles of each area along the coast and interior of British Columbia.

Rattle: (17 1/4" x 6" x 6")

Marble base: (14 1/2" x 7 1/2" x 3/4")
