EMERGENCY SPILL RESPONSE (AWARENESS LEVEL/1 DAY)

An in-depth course, in accordance to NFPA Standards, designed to provide your staff with the necessary information to make the right decisions when confronted with an Emergency Spill. The course aims to increase the awareness of your staff, enabling them to apply preventative/cost-effective measures in the workplace. Topics include: Risk Analysis, Chemical Inventory/Storage, Waste Management, Toxicology, Spill Control (Offensive/Defensive), Spill Reporting, Basic Environmental Regulation, and Spill Scenarios.
EMERGENCY SPILL RESPONSE (RESPONDER LEVEL/3 DAY)

Conducted at the Calgary Fire Department Training Centre, this course expands on the topics covered in the Awareness Level. A practical, detailed look at Spill Response Procedures is taken and includes such topics as: Spill Control Options, Spill Control Command, Decontamination, Personal Protective Equipment, Sorbent Options. On the third day, students apply what they have learned by responding to numerous mock-spill scenarios.

A comprehensive interpretation of Municipal, Provincial, and Federal Legislation, and what it means to you. The course was developed to assist personnel responsible for inspecting potential hazardous materials sites and/or to allow one to stay abreast of regulatory developments. Some topics include: An Interpretation of Secondary Containment Guidelines, Storage Management (Incompatibles and Permittable Levels), Alberta Environment Release Reporting Guidelines, Sewer Regulations (Sanitation vs. Storm).
SECONDARY CONTAINMENT/SORBENT SELECTION
A guided tour through the jungle of marketing and promotional jargon used in the industry today, this course investigates the underlying misconceptions so often uncovered when acquiring sorbents/secondary containment. Students are provided with the necessary information needed to implement a cost-efficient, practical approach to sorbent and secondary containment selection. Some topics include: Storage and Secondary Containment, Classification of Sorbents, Composition of Sorbents, Spill Identification, Material Compatibility and Related Dangers, Recycling/Disposal.
