| A daughter was born to Leonard & Mary Shewfelt on the 1st
November 1829. Leonard's residence between 1824 and 1838 was
sometimes Markham Township and sometimes Brock Township. As
Markham Twp. and Brock Twp. are next to each other, the Shewfelt's must
have lived along the border and perhaps had land on both sides, so Ann
was born either in Markham Township or Brock Township. Ann was not christened until 2nd Nov.1846 when she was a teenager. The christening record is listed in the West Brock Church of England register on page 18 as follows: Baptism Nov. 2 1846 of Ann dau of Leonard and Mary Shoefelt born Nov. 1, 1829. Leonard's residence was Mariposa Twp. Sponsors: Geo. & Ann Thompson The sponsors were Mary's brother and his wife. About 1842 Leonard moved his family to Mariposa Townhip. Ann was living in Mariposa Twp. when she was married to Robert Ewing. Her marriage record is found in The Marriage Registers of Upper Canada/Canada West Volume 10 Colborne District 1841 - 1857 Robert Ewings, Farmer, of Eldon, to Anne Shewfelt, of Mariposa. 24 Jan. 1848, by Licence. Rev. Reid, Wit. John MacBain and Tho's MacKenzie Ann and Robert lived in Eldon Township. They were on the 1851 census (which was taken in 1852) along with their three children. Henry Ewing was born 11 Nov. 1848, Mary Jane Ewing was born 18 Feb. 1850 and Hannah was born 16 Oct 1851. Two more children were born Elizabeth Ewing on 16 Aug 1853 in Brock Township and Sarah Ann Ewing on 15 Jul 1855. Where was Sarah Ann born? By 1859 the Ewings were living in Kincardine Twp., Bruce Twp. They had three chldren children christened in The Church of the Messiah in Kincardine on the 6th Oct. 1859 - Joseph Ewing born 17 May, 1857 and twins, Charles Ewing an Leonard Ewing born 24 July 1859 At the time of the 1861census the family was living in Kincardine Twp., Bruce County, Ontario next door to Ann's Aunt, Charity (Shewfelt) Brocklebank and her husband Thomas. Although they now had a large family of eight children, there were more to come. William Francis Ewing was born on the 8th September 1861, George W. Ewing was born on the 15th July 1864, Benjamin Franklin Ewing was born 24 March 1868 and Robert Edwin Ewing was born 8th April 1871. The Ewings owned the land in Kincardine until 1870 but by the time of the 1871 census the Ewings with their twelve children were in Brantford East Township, Brant County, Ontario. One more child, Margaret Ewing was born 1 Sep 1872 in Brantford Twp., Brant, Ontario and sadly she died 8 December 1878 at Brantford Township. In 1881 they were in Brantford East Townsihip but their children were beginning to leave home. They had only eight children living at home. The Ewings next immigrated to Winfield Township, Montcalm Couny in Michigan. On the 1894 state census of Michigan Ann and Robert were alone, but they lived next door to their daughter Elizabeth who was married to James Feightner. They were in the same household as the Feightners in 1900 and their widowed daughter, Hannah was with them (listed as Anna Milk). The 1900 cenus was taken on the 1st and 2nd of June and later that same month Robert Ewing died on the 24th. Ann died three years later on th 13th December 1906.
