"2005-11-19 - Wilbert Peter Shewfelt, of Kincardine
Bert was born in McCauley Manitoba and has always been, as he would say, from the "West". Bert was raised with his parents, William and Margaret (Conquergood) Shewfelt, three sisters Elva Moran (Grandview Manitoba), Betty Bowes (Palmerston), Jennette Green (Ralph) (Regina) and two brothers Earl Shewfelt (Myrtle) (Grandview Manitoba), and Clarence Shewfelt (Elsie) (Portage La Prairie, Manitoba)(deceased 2004). After completing high school, Bert came East to Kincardine in 1936 on the rail to work in "Shewfelt's Red and White Grocery Store" for his Uncle Harold. Bert married Verna (Wall) June 29, 1938 and raised five children. Ken and wife Bonnie Shewfelt (Vancouver), Peter and Penny Shewfelt (Kincardine), Dave and Heather Shewfelt (Kincardine), Brian Shewfelt (Kincardine), Joan and Roy Moore (Burlington). Via these children came nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren that carry on the Shewfelt name. Jeff and Tracey, along with their children Taylor and Lauren of Vancouver, Todd and Lorraine, with their children Matthew and Gabriel also of Vancouver, John Shewfelt of St. Catharines, Gregory Shewfelt of Florida, Bill Shewfelt and Lindsay Walsh of Kincardine, Sadie and Elsie Shewfelt of Kincardine, Dan and Shelley Miller, with their children Chloe, Anna, Jane and Macy of Kirkland Lake and Melanie and her son Liam of Guelph. Bert has had a wonderful life. He was a life member of the Kincardine Golf and Country Club for 67 years and Club Champion at the age of 75. Past charter member of the Kincardine Kinsmen Club for over 50 years, Member of the Kincardine United Church, Member of the Masonic Lodge, and Charter Shareholder of the Kincardine Curling Club. Bert enjoyed sports but his greatest society gift was the "extending credit" he gave to his customers that helped them survive the 40s and 50s. Bert was a very self-motivated person, competitive and driven, never afraid of a good challenge. He even took his friendly card games and growing the best tomatoes seriously. He enjoyed the little things over the last few years; his coffee with Howard Mank, Ernie Evans, Ken Perrott, Stewart Kaster, Bill Splan, Wilfred Towns and Paul Mullen. Bert enjoyed everyone who worked or shopped at the "Red and White" when they still came to see him and said hello. He enjoyed trying to keep up to Verna, his home on MacDonald Ave, his grandchildren and great grandchildren and playing golf daily untill he was 89 years young. The last "Golden Years" have not been perfect, but he still enjoyed, boasted and praised his wonderful grandchildren and family. Visitation for Bert was held on Tuesday, November 22, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine (Masonic Service Tuesday at 6:45 pm). The funeral service will be held at the United Church of Kincardine on Wednesday, November 23, 2005, at 2:00 pm. Interment, Kincardine Cemetery. Lunch to follow. Memorial donations will be accepted for the Kincardine Golf and Country Club Junior Program."

Verna Grace WALL

1Obituary, www.daveylinklaterfuneralhome.com.
"2006-01-16 - Verna Grace Shewfelt nee: Wall, of Kincardine
Verna Grace Shewfelt of Kincardine, died Jan. 16, 2006. She was 87.
Verna was born in Kinloss Township in the home of her parents, Joseph Wall and Annie Wall (Conley), where she was raised with her brothers, Elmer Wall (deceased) (Daisy), Morley Wall (deceased) (Dorothy), Grant Wall (deceased) (Beth) and sister Cora (Frank) Thompson.
After completing high school in Teeswater, Verna came west to Kincardine to work at the Botany Spinning Mill in 1936.
Verna married Bert on June 29, 1938 and they raised five children: Ken and Bonnie Shewfelt (Vancouver), Peter and Penny Shewfelt (Kincardine), Dave and Heather Shewfelt (Kincardine), Brian Shewfelt (Kincardine), and Joan and Roy Moore (Burlington).
They also have nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren: Jeff and Tracey, along with their children, Taylor and Lauren of Vancouver; Todd and Lorraine, with their children, Matthew and Gabriel, also of Vancouver; John Shewfelt of St. Catharines; Gregory Shewfelt of Florida; Bill Shewfelt and Lindsay Walsh of Kincardine; Sadie and Elsie Shewfelt of Kincardine; Dan and Shelley Miller, with their children, Chloe, Anna, Jane and Macy of Kirkland Lake; and Melanie and her son, Liam of Guelph.
Verna enjoyed a wonderful life. She was a Life Member of the Kinette Club, Eastern Star, the Rebecca Lodge and the Kincardine United Church.
When asked, “What was your Mother’s occupation?”, I answered homemaker. She not only raised five of her own children, which entailed piano, hockey, skating and baseball lessons, there was also cooking, cleaning, organizing everything, vice-president of a grocery store, etc. All this with no T.V., no computers, no C.D.s or tapes and only one car! She also raised all the kids in the neighborhood - she had one of those homes where every kid "hung out" and was welcome.
After becoming a Grandmother (Great Grandmother), she loved to do all these things over again.
When she retired as a homemaker, she enjoyed volunteering at Trillium Court and Malcolm Place and singing with the Kincardine Community Singers.
In addition, for herself she was the lady everyone would see "dancing" when she marched behind the Kincardine Pipe Band. She loved showing off her rose bushes, playing euchre Friday nights, or just visiting with neighbours. She also loved the Sunday night Sing-a-long with Norm Dunsmoor and Gerri MacLeod and never missed her Church on Sunday.
This past year was not perfect for her but, she still had a big smile and never a complaint.
Visitation at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine was on Friday, January 20th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The funeral service was held on Saturday, January 21, 2006 at the Kincardine United Church at 11 am., with Rev. Don Harry Officiating. Interment Kincardine Cemetery.
Memorial donations accepted for the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to The Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, 757 Princes St., Kincardine."
