Uncle Jimbo here. I'll be showing up here in the coming weeks and months, sounding off on all things I think are good, bad, or indifferent in the sports world. I might even sneak a few pics and such in as well.

Spring training is upon us, with pitchers and catchers reporting. That warms the cockles of my heart.
Meanwhile, here in town (Calgary, AB) the league in which I coach, Calgary Babe Ruth Baseball , starts pre-draft evaluations on new players in just 10 days. This is the time of year when we coaches get all pumped up and ready to play. Bring it on, baby!

Last night, I was sad to see the news that Cincinnati was sending local boy, Chris Reitsma, to AAA. Even more surprised to hear Chris crack on the Reds organization after the announcement. Here's a kid who is basically the poster boy for all that is good about the game and he's ripping the team that gave him his shot at the Majors. Admittedly, he might have a point that they're giving Cincy a lousy product, but it should also be noted that Reitsma played himself out of the rotation this spring with a sub-par job on the mound (10 ER in 15 IP). Apparently playing for a gong-show of a club can bring the worst out of just about anyone. Well, here's hoping he can pitch his way back to the Show with some solid work on the farm.

So the Reds recalled my main man, the above-mentioned Chris Reitsma, about a month into the schedule and he's currently among the team leaders in wins. Hmmm, sure seemed like a good move at the time to ship him to the farm.
My new favourite pro ballplayer is, without a doubt, Yorvit Torealba . This young backup catcher for the San Francisco Giants easily has the coolest name in the majors. Also, he's shown himself to be a defensive stud so far in his young career. He can apparently hit a little bit too, so I look forward to seeing him take on a larger and larger roll with the Giants.
But now, a nap...
