Biography
I was born and raised in the city of
Calgary, Alberta,
Canada, and have lived there all my life, except for a brief 4 year
period when my husband attended law school in Utah. My current
home is on an acreage west of the city, overlooking the beautiful Rocky Mountains,
and approximately one hour from the mountain village
of Banff.
Family
I have a wonderful husband, five fabulous children
and one amazing son-in-law! (
Family Photo ) I have been a stay at home mom for almost
30 years, and am in the process of making the transition into the
"empty nest" phase of life.
Education
I attended one year at the University of Calgary,
and one and a half years at Brigham Young University in Utah before becoming
a stay-at-home mom. I am currently enrolled in the
BYU
Independent Study program and hope to be able to graduate eventually
with a General Studies degree.
I received my ARCT in Piano Pedagogy from the
Royal
Conservatory of Music in 1999, and taught piano lessons privately
for a number of years.
I recently completed the Web Design Certificate
program at Mount Royal College
and enjoy taking courses through their
Faculty of Continuing Education.
Interests
I have been an avid family history researcher over
the last 25 years and have spent many hours pursuing this hobby.
I currently have close to 5000 family names in my database. I enjoy traveling to places that have family
historical significance and research destinations such as the
Family History Library
in Salt Lake City.
I enjoy singing, and have sung with some wonderful
choirs in the past, including the Mount Royal Kantorei. Currently, I enjoy using my music
skills to lead a choir of young single adults at my church.
I enjoy designing web pages for myself, my
friends, and non-profit organizations, and hope to be able to
develop my skills so I can start my own design business someday.
I like to take advantage of the recreational
activities that living close to the mountains affords, such as
skiing, hiking and biking. I also enjoy running, when my aging
body will let me.
I enjoy working with computers and digital
photography. I especially enjoy working with Adobe software,
and am currently trying to develop my skills in Flash, Illustrator,
and Photoshop.
Community Service
I have served in a number of capacities within my
church community throughout the years, working with teenagers, women
and children.
I am a past director of the
Calgary Family History
Centre, having served there from September 2001 to June 2004.
I continue to enjoy volunteering there one day a week as a Research
Assistant.
I enjoy teaching others about family history research,
and in the past, have given presentations at the
Alberta Family History Society and
Calgary Family History Centre.
I am an active member of the
Junior League of
Calgary and am currently serving as the webmaster for their
website.
