Obituary: Brooks Bulletin
Merkl – Alan Stewart Merkl of Brooks, beloved son of Joe and Margaret Merkl of Brooks, passed away at the Brooks Health Centre on September 20th, 2009 at the age of 49 years. Born in Calgary on September 29th, 1959 Alan received his education in Brooks and graduated from the Brooks Composite High School in 1978. He attended Fairview College receiving his Motorcycle Mechanic License in 1990. Alan will be sadly missed by his parents, Joe and Margaret Merkl; brothers Dale (Darla) of Arcola, Saskatchewan, Barry (Dawn) of Creston, BC and Cameron of Brooks; sister Corey Meyer (Mike) of Chestermere and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Friday, September 25th at 2:00 PM from St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Deacon Robert N.J. Wilson officiated. Honorary Pallbearers were Alan’s family and friends. Active Pallbearers were Barry, Dale, and Cameron Merkl, Mike Meyer, Scott MacKenzie and Darrell Church. Interment followed at Brooks Cemetery. In memory of Alan, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to either the Brooks and District Health Foundation for Palliative Care, Bag 300, Brooks, Alberta T1R 1B3 or Charity of Choice.
