Obituary: The Vancouver Sun, January 15, 2000

GERCSAK - John Sr. passed away peacefully in his sleep at Arbutus Care Center on January 14th, 2000 at the age of 97 years. Born in Hungary on September 8, 1901 and moved to Canada in 1929, John was predeceased by his wife Mary in 1993 and will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Rosemary (Bill) Lang, son John Jr. (Sydney); 6 grandchildren Christine, Jamie, Michael, Mark, Sean and Tyler. He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit and bright mind. John's contributions to the community included being a founding member of the Hungarian Cultural Society and the Hungarian Credit Union. Prayers will be offered Sunday, January 16th, 2000 at 8:00 p.m. in Holy Name Church, (W. 33rd Ave. and Cambie St.), Vancouver, where Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 17th, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. Fr. N. Boomars, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Ocean View Burial Park, Burnaby. Kearney Funeral Services 736-0268.

GERCSAK - Mary died peacefully at Vancouver General Hospital on February 24, 1993 in her 80th year. Survived by her loving husband of 59 yrs, John; 2 children; Rosemary Lang (Bill), John (Sydney), 6 grandchildren; Christine, Jamie, Michael, Mark, Sean and Tyler. Prayers will be offered at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 33rd Ave., & Cambie St., Vancouver, 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 1, where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 2. Father N. Bocmars celebrant. Interment Ocean View Cemetery, Burnaby, B.C. Kearney Funeral Services.
