Mrs. Theresa Merkl, beloved wife of Mr. John Merkl of Taber, passed away on Thursday, June 23rd, 1983 at the age of 84 years. Born in Sokolovac, Yugoslavia, Mrs. Merkl came to Canada in 1928. Settling in Regina. Mr. and Mrs. Merkl moved to 'Taber in November of 1935 and worked at the Taber Cannery and in the beet fields. They began farming in Barnwell in 1941 and in the fall of 1964 moved to the town of Taber where she resided until the time of her passing. Mr. and Mrs. Merkl recently celebrated their 60th Anniversary. Besides her husband, John; she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Tillie of Barnwell; three grand-children, Bill and wife, Monell of Taber, and Ron and Ken both of Barnwell; two great-grandchildren, Andrea and Paul; and one sister, Maria Merkl of Taber. Friends may meet for Prayers in Reardon's funeral Chapel on Sunday, June 26th at 7:30 p m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Augustine's Catholic Church on Monday, June i27th at 10:30 a.m. with Father John Maes celebrant. Interment to follow in the Taber Memorial Garden. MR. JOHN MERKL of Taber, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Theresa Merkl, passed away on Sunday, February 17th, 1985 at the age of 86 years. He was born in Sokolovac, Yugoslavia on January 27th, 1899 and came to Canada in 1926. In 1928 he settled in Regina and was joined by his wife and son. In 1935 the family moved to Taber and in 1941 they moved to Barnwell. Mr. Merkl farmed in Barnwell until 1964 when he and his wife moved back to Taber where he resided until the time of his passing. He was predeceased by his wife, Theresa in 1983. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Tillie Merkl of Barnwell; three grandsons, Bill and wife Monell of Taber and Ron and Ken both of Barnwell; three great-grandchildren, Andrea , Paul and Sheila; three brothers, Steve (Elizabeth) of Calgary, Joe (Regina) of Surrey, B.C., and Mike of Hungary; one sister, Theresa in Hungary and one sister-in-law, Katie McDermott of Lethbridge. A Prayer Mass will be celebrated in St. Augustine's Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 20th at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Church on Thursday, February 21st at 10:30 a.m. with Father Larry Bagnall celebrant. Interment to follow in the Taber Memorial Garden. Those who wish may give to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements in care of Reardon's SOUTHLAND FUNERAL CHAPEL, Taber.
