MERKL — Mr Lawrence Merkl Sr., beloved husband of Mrs. Martha Merkl of Taber, passed away on Wednesday, June 22nd, 1977 at the age of 65 years. Born in Yugoslavia the late Mr. Merkl immigrated to Canada in 1938 at which time he moved to Taber where he was active in farming until his retirement in 1972. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by six daughters, Elizabeth and Rose Merkl, both of Lethbridge, Mrs. Steve (Teresa) Seiller of Coalhurst, Mrs. Don (Mary) Bell of Edmonton, Mrs."Art (Irene) Fuzey of Fort Erie. Ontario and Mrs Rick (Martha) Ervin of Lethbridge; five sons, Fred and Lawrence Jr. both of Taber, Joe of Edmonton, Frank of Medicine Hat and George of Calgary, 12 grandchildren; a sister in Argentina and a sister in Germany. Mr. Merkl was predeceased by a son Steve in April, 1963. Friends may meet for prayers in Reardon's Funeral Chapel on Friday, June 24 at 7 30 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated in St Augustine's Catholic Church on Saturday, June 25 at 11 00 a m. Mrs. Martha Merkl, beloved wife of the late Mr. Laurence Merkl Sr., passed away at St. Michael's Health Centre in Lethbridge, Alberta on Saturday, December 11, 2004 at the age of 92 years. Martha was born on June 26, 1912 in Sokolovac, Croatia to George Horvath and Elizabeth Belec. She married Laurence Merkl on May 4, 1931. In March of 1938 she immigrated to Canada with her husband and three children Steve, Godfred and Elizabeth. They settled in Taber and farmed east of Taber until they retired in 1972 and moved into town. She enjoyed gardening, crafts and cooking for her family. Martha has resided at St. Michael's Health Centre since August of 2002. She will be sadly missed by her family. She was predeceased by her son Steve on April 21, 1963 and her husband Laurence on June 22, 1977. Martha is survived by her eleven children; Godfred (Ann) Merkl of Taber, Elizabeth Merkl of Lethbridge, Teresa Seiller of Lethbridge, Mary (Don) Bell of Edmonton, Irene Fuzey of Lethbridge, Lawrence Merkl of Taber, Martha (Rick) Ervin of Lethbridge, Joe Merkl of Edmonton, Rose Merkl of Lethbridge, Frank (Margo) Merkl of Medicine Hat and George Merkl of Edmonton; a sister Mary (Leonard) Mauser of Kitchner, Ontario, a brother John (Elizabeth) Horvath of Germany; 21 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a dear friend Sarah (Nicky) Nicholson of Taber. Relatives and friends are invited for Prayers at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006-48 Ave., Taber on Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at 7:00 P.M. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, 5009-48 Ave., Taber on Thursday, December 16 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Father Mariusz Sztuk SDS celebrant. Interment to follow in the Taber Memorial Garden. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Martha's name may be made to the charity of one's choice.
