ADVANCED PERFORMANCE COMPANY    Ages 15–18

Entrance into this program by interview and audition or by permission of studio. Call 250-386-8593 or email to set up an appointment.

This highly regarded and popular program, now entering its 15th year, provides serious theatre students with an opportunity to train extensively.

Students study movement, voice, improvisation, acting techniques, and engage in self-evaluation, group discussion, and collaboration. This year-long course also provides the opportunity to study specific methodologies with guest instructors from Victoria's professional theatre community.

Text, subtext, story, and characters of a two act play are studied in depth and rehearsed. In the spring, the program culminates with the students presenting their work to the community in a professional theatre, Intrepid Theatre’s The Metro. From beginning to end, from read through, to rehearsal, to memorization, to head shots, and bios, to the final performance with set, sound, lights, and costumes, these students have the opportunity to learn what a professional does.

They perform a run of six shows including some school matinees. Look for these students and their production in local papers and television stations in May, 2012.

Sept. 19, 2011–May 14, 2012.
Mondays 4:00–6:30pm (holiday breaks: Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break and Easter).
Extra rehearsals in April and May.
Performances at the Metro Theatre May 2–6, 2012, with school matinees on May 3 and 4 at 12:30pm.
Instructor: Kate Rubin.
Nine-month program with over 150 hours of instruction and production assistance: $1,260 (incl. HST) or $140 per month for nine months.

We receive no grants or special funding so the production costs and work are covered by ticket sales and volunteer efforts from families and the larger community.

There will be some volunteer help asked of parents over the production time in the spring. (For example, helping with ticket sales and concession). We do our best to keep the time commitment down for these jobs but, as theatre is a labour-intensive art, some volunteer help is gratefully appreciated. Without it, the program could not continue.

Each student receives two complimentary tickets to the production. Ticket prices to the production are not included in the class fee. Ticket sales pay for 95% of production costs.
