Lil'Owl's Boubliwae Adventures
Chapter 5
Lil'Owl Meets Mossy

The world is a wonder, its beauty and power, the shapes of things, their colours, lights, and shades are works of art. The huge Boubliwae Forest is so vast, wild and woody that humans rarely venture through it, for fear of getting lost. Deep within this forest a lone small girl, who had the appearance of a young female gnome, was met by Lil'Owl. She was orphaned when her parents were captured by hobgoblins, never to be seen again.

Little Mossy lives within the shelter of the great forest. Her home is deep within a rock cave; the entrance is hidden beneath a cloak of vibrant green moss. Inside her home the floors are carpeted in an array of velvety mosses. The walls are covered in tapestries depicting life; all hand crafted by little Mossy.

Since she was discovered wandering in the forest, by old mother black bear with whom she lives, Mossy has never spoken a word. It was not known if she was ever capable of speech. The elders believed that the tragic demise of her family was likely so traumatic that it frightened her voice from her. But, by some cosmic method, she was able to explain to the gnomes that she was a Fagle, and that Fagles communicate without uttering a sound. The gnomes were astonished and rushed to spread the news and have it written in their Secret Books.

Mossy records life from various realms by capturing it, and transferring it, onto canvas with spun silk. Her needlework is so fine she is now often called upon to mend the intricate wings of fairies, bees and butterflies. Her clothes are always embroidered with hearts and stars that shimmer like moon light. Mossy is rarely seen without embellishments from the forest adorning her emerald green cap. Similar to a gnome cap, however much softer.

Every Thursday, Mossy teaches needlework to gnomes and fairies. Together, they create spectacular gowns for the many fairies residing deep within this magical Boubliwae Forest.

In the cave where Mossy lives, she tends a large collection of caterpillars from whom she obtains her silken threads. These are carefully colored with dyes from plants and flowers collected and stored in the cave larder. She gathers and presses spectacular flowers between pieces of very thin slate. These are often coated with glitter; created from finely grounded precious gems provided to Mossy by local miner gnomes in exchange for one of Mossy's wall adornments or gowns for their ladies. These glittering flowers are fastened to her wondrous creations. Older married, female gnomes are also taught how to create elaborate gathering belts for their men.

I must stop here to explain that the old mother black bear, and other forest animals, fill Mossy's larder with acorns, dried berries, toadstools and wild herbs to feast upon. For this reason, Mossy's missions never take her far from old mother bear's cave and she is almost never in any danger, as many forest animals are her protectors - even wolves and weasels look out for her and guard the sheltered cave while mother black bear hibernates during the dead of winter. Nearby gnome and beaver families ensure that a constant supply of firewood is left at the entrance of the cave. They even helped the gnomes create the ornate wooden door that seals out the cold and unwelcome predators from entering the cave.

Mossy is a young woman. Her childlike appearance captures the hearts of all who gaze upon her. She radiates all that is good and pure; almost angelic; it is no wonder she has so many protectors. Mossy is certainly possessed with an abiding serenity and an infinite calm.

Complete this picture of Mossy.
Is she preparing flowers for pressing?
Or, perhaps creating dyes for her silk threads?
Color her gown and emerald cap; add fairy dust to make her glow.
