Lil'Owl's Boubliwae Forest
Chapter 9 - Occupations
Gnome families are very much like human families. Gnomes will grow up and take on an occupation that best suits them. When very young their parents will expose them to many trades and eventually each one will discover what he or she enjoys. A gnome who has a passion for wood will work with forest trees. Earlier this year you were introduced to Willy and Wiley Woodworker who are carpenters residing in Lil'Owl's Boubliwae Forest. These two gnomes reclaim very old tree limbs from the bottom of the Boubliwae Lake. An Otter whom the gnomes call Thouin located old logs on the bottom of the Boubliwae Lake and tells the gnomes who then recover this lumber from the past. Many of these logs are the results of human lumbering activities carried out in the 1700-1800s! A couple of gnome boat builders from the Boubliwae Village designed a pontoon navigated by a gnome called Capt'n Spencer who safely transported the logs to shore. A gnome called Baird designed and operated a winch to lift the limbs from the lake bottom. Then the logs are transported to a little mill also designed by the gnomes. The quality of this reclaimed wood is the best! Because of its density, beauty and tendency not to shrink, it is prized by gnome carpenters for making fine furniture, gnome carvers and cabinetmakers travel from around the world to obtain some of this reclaimed wood. Gnomes, whom we know love music, use this reclaimed wood to create musical instruments that produce a superior sound.
I hope you have enjoyed this little article on gnome occupations. I was inspired to write it after reading about three men in Quebec, Canada who actually carry out this method of underwater logging on Lake Memphremagog. I think they are certainly helping to maintain our natural environment. May the gnomes of the forest forever smile upon them! And may Thouin (now deceased) swim with the otters!
