Motto: "We Care About Nature"
The Gnomes of Mushroom Lane, February - If one was
able to...wander along the paths that meander through Mushroom Lane© you may be fortunate to come upon Reflection Pond. Just as its name suggests it is as smooth as glass and reflects back images like a mirror. Here gnomes often come to discover more about their inner most thoughts and feelings. The reflections from this pond come alive and gnomes are able to carry on conversations with their inner-selves. What a magical gift. But, that's not all - the fish and frogs residing in this pond can also converse with the Gnomes of Mushroom Lane©
Here you see Dusty, who is the pond caretaker gnome, looking into Reflection Pond. Dusty lives at # 7 Mushroom Lane and it is his duty to ensure that all living things in and around the pond stay healthy.
I hope you enjoyed this episode from the new series, The Gnomes of Mushroom Lane. Mushroom Lane is a registered trademark of Cornish Heritage Farms. The mushroom homes used throughout this series are part of a set marketed as rubber stamps. This month's featured Mushroom Lane home stamp is #7 (approximately 4 x 5 inches) and can be ordered by contacting liz@cornishheritagefarms.com or by visiting the Cornish Heritage Farms' website at www.cornishheritagefarms.com

Nature Spirits & Elemental Beings, Working with the
Intelligence in Nature, by Marko Pogacnik, ISBN 1-899171-66-5, Published by
Findhorn Press. Softcover price $20.95.
This book was recently gifted to me, and although I have not quite finished it, I question how it is possible for one person to contact so many elemental beings. The book is obviously well researched and written for adults. I even had to consult my dictionary a couple of times. However, in reading this book I have learned a lot about different elementals and become more aware of the purpose of gnomes as well as other elementals in relation to our human existence here on earth.
For those who have ever experienced, or wish to experience elementals, I recommend reading this book. It is interesting to read about sacred places; where elementals reside within the universe and in particular here on earth. The book gets you thinking and will certainly make your nature walks more interesting.

BUSY HANDS … (mine,
that is) haven’t been too busy lately with holidays and a right shoulder
problem. In 2007, I hope to do better creating more needlepoint.
I love all my Gnome needlework that gives daily pleasure throughout my new home. It would be hard to pick a favorite; however, if I had to, the piece below would probably be my ‘mostest favoritest’ of them all.
As most of you know by now, Jenny Nystrom was a world-renown Swedish artist who specialized in Gnomes. I so enjoyed my visit to the Kalmar Lans Museum in her home town of Kalmar, Sweden. After an early dinner at a lovely restaurant,
I walked around and found a shop that sold a variety of things to make and also finished items to buy. I asked the salesgal if she had anything with a “Tomte” design, and out came this little fellow. The design was faintly printed on canvas with a pale blue outline. I was so excited to see it and don’t recall the price. Sadly, this was the only Gnome handwork design I saw anywhere in Sweden.
Once I got home to the U.S. and started stitching, I could hardly put the project down. Ideas popped up in my head like firecrackers. (The Gnome surely had a lot to do with that!)

He’s just a honeybun of a guy. If anyone would like the design, I can take the finished picture to a store that may be able to make a large color photocopy for you. (The club president will contact me with your name and address.)
I’m not an artist, so anyone who can needlepoint (or embroider) should be able to have as much fun with this design as I did. (The Gnome will surely help you.)

This month's draw will be for a very special gnome embroidered kitchen hand towel. Have you been following the Gnomes of Mushroom Lane© series in our monthly newsletters? Well, soon you will be introduced to a BIG cat residing with a local farmer. He is a very special feline who watches over the gnomes when they visit the farmer's place. His name is Nightshade. What do you suppose he looks like? Submit your suggestions before January 25 to QueenGnome@foundus.com . Contest draws are open to members only.

I think the cat is a long-haired bi-color black & white cat - just like my beloved Lucky who had Angora fur – long legs and big feet, like Mickey Mouse shoes – and a long feathered tail. He came from a NJ animal shelter not far from where I used to live … weighing less than a pound. He died when he was 14. He was a perfect child always, and “kneaded” on my neck/chest when I’d pick him up and when we went to bed. |

Instructions for constructing your own Reflection Pond 3-D card.
Background: 5-1/2 inch white cardstock; #7 Mushroom Lane was stamped and embossed and painted with Lumin Arte Twinkling H20's (metallic water color shimmers), a grass stamp was used and stamped 3x before re-inking to create depth then water color was used to add additional scenery (sky & pathway)
Dusty the gnome looking into Reflection Pond is a new stamp sold by YanKiwi (#GZ1001B) I stamped it onto white cardstock with a dark brown and then clear embossed it before painting. The pond was water colored and then 'crystal effects' purchased from my Stampin' Up demonstrator was applied to give the water a REAL water look.
The clouds were created with a swipe of glue stick and bits of a cotton ball. The moon is a stamp which was cut out and affixed with a pop-up foam dot.
The tiny rocks around the pond and beside the house are coated with 'Stone Stuff' by Gare.
Small silk leaves were affixed with craft glue.
The Black Card was constructed from 8-1/2 x 11 inch cardstock folded in half with a 6-1/2 x 3-1/2 inch window cut out of the front.
The frame is cut from blue cardstock with clear plastic window affixed to it with double sided tape. The window in the frame is the same size as the hole cut out from the Black Card. The frame was then affixed to the black card with strips of foam and double sided tape (1/4 inch) TIP: use the cut-out from the Black Card as your template.
Elasticized silver rope was used to affix a matching sheet of paper to the inside of the card and two purchased dimensional stickers were used to hold down the ends of the rope.
Before assembling my card I added some loose glitter to give the card a more magical look. Like a snow globe!
Water tends to make cardstock buckle adding to the dimensional look. If you prefer to have a flat card you can try to press the card with a dry iron (NO steam!) between two sheets of paper before affixing your dimensional pieces and/or accessories.
I added the Mushroom Lane story to the inside of this card to finish it off. Create your own 3-D cards and stories to go with them. Children really enjoy this fun hobby! Crayons and markers can be used instead of paint. Put a little gnome magic, and a friendly gnome, at the bedside of a sick child.

As excitement builds for another magnificent Australia Day celebration on Glenbrook Park, reports are being received that the third annual Australian Gnome Convention will be bigger and better than ever.
During the past 12 months, Glenbrook's three Gnome Ambassadors - Goin', Stayin' and Comin' - have literally scoured the world (with their Rotarian carers) to promote the Convention and invite little people from near and far to attend.
The Rotary Club of Lower Blue Mountains' Gnome Convention Grand Master Rotarian David Cook and his wife Carolyn have personally escorted the travelling Gnomes to Scandinavia and various parts of Europe during the year.
Rotary District 9690 Governor Elect Jennifer Scott of the Rotary Club of Central Blue Mountains and her husband Rotarian Ian obtained special permission for Ambassador Goin' to be part of a unique mission to Argentina and the Antarctica several months ago.
Other countries targeted during the year included China, Mexico, Holland and Switzerland. No cost has been spared to provide the Gnome Convention with the best possible exposure. Rumour has it they Goin' ever gate crashed a high society wedding in Melbourne!
Lower Blue Mountains Rotary President Trevor Lloyd called for support from the Blue Mountains/Penrith community to make the Convention the biggest ever.
"It will be disappointing for Gnomes to come from distant places and not have the opportunity to meet and swap recipes and stories with a good cross section of local Gnomes" he said.
"Every single gnome from the Blue Mountains area is welcome to attend. Gnomes have no hang ups about age or dress so their carer families must take time to give them a break from the drudgery of their own gardens."
"With the right kind of local support, we expect to cater for 400 to 500 Gnomes this year. We have already received registrations from TWO Santa Claus Gnomes from the North Pole - who claim the timing of the Convention is perfect for them in the wake of the festive season," the President concluded.
David Cook said Gnomes may register for the Convention from 9 am - at no cost to carers. He said all food and beverage for the Gnomes will be provided by the Rotary club.
As in past years, Gnomes travelling long distances to attend will be provided with overnight accommodation in David and Carolyn Cook's garden - on the understanding of a strict curfew at 11 pm.
Carolyn Cook confided that the Gnomes love a party and there were some late night noise issues with neighbours last year, due to the presence of seven English Gnomes.
She added that the English Gnomes would be far more subdued this year, as a result of the 5-0 cricket drubbing in the recent Ashes series.
Such is the increasing fame of the Convention that it even received a mention from the ABC commentary team during the fifth test cricket broadcast - a mention that was then picked up by expert cricket enthusiasts in the USA.
David Cook has also been requested to allocate time for an interview with noted Gnome supporter HG Nelson on ABC radio (702) on the morning of Sunday, January 21, 2007

We are pleased to be associated with the first ever Scottish Snowdrop Festival which will take place between 1 February and 11 March 2007. Organised by Visit Scotland, Scotland’s National Tourism Organisation, the festival will involve 57 woodland garden locations around the country where walkers can marvel at these little gems in the clear light that winter brings to Scotland.
But did you know that there is a snowdrop called “Grumpy”?
Gnomeland was asked to supply its namesake, “Grumpy the Garden Gnome”, and he will be hiding among the snowdrops at selected gardens. Visitors who do venture out are invited to find him and win one of the prizes on offer – a 3 night holiday at a National Trust for Scotland property; a year’s membership to the National Trust for Scotland, and one of 50 family passes for a day out at one of the Trust’s properties.

Our new female gnomes have generated a lot of feedback and we are currently looking into adding a few more to our line. http://www.moore-stuff.com/gnome%20catalog%20Classic%20Gnomes%20medium.htm We have also had several requests for ethnic gnomes which we are checking into as well as a line of stationary.
Gift certificates are now available for our website. The gift certificates are backed by PayPal and do not expire or incur any type of fees. You can choose the dollar amount you wish to purchase. We are working on gift wrapping services and gift cards but I think we need a new IT person. I can only get the links on the Large Gnome page to work so far. We intended the gift cards to be free but could not get the link to work without putting in a price. Therefore, gift cards are available for $0.01. http://www.moore-stuff.com/gnome%20catalog%20Classic%20Gnomes%20large.htm
Several of our personal gnomes have decided to go wandering. Bocephis took a job with Canyon Transportation for the winter and took one of our female gnomes with him. (Canyon Transportation provides shuttle service in the Salt Lake area http://www.canyontransportation.com/) Sidney was very upset that Bocephis left him behind so he took a temporary job with a trucker and is currently cruising the eastern states. Both have promised to keep in touch and we are looking forward to pictures.
Our website www.moore-stuff.com has been operational for 1 year this month. To celebrate, we will be offering various promotions throughout the month. We want to thank everyone who has offered us feedback and suggestions throughout the past year. Your suggestions and input are very important to us.
Wishing you all a Happy, Healthy New Year!
