Gnome Devotee G9 has been gnome hunting on Ebay and has found some great gnome fabrics lately as well as unique hand made gnomes. With so many mass marketed gnomes it is wonderful to adopt one of a kind gnomes. They just seem to have more character and unique personalities. Here are a couple of gnomes recently obtained by Gnome Devotee and her comments about them...

Meet Mr. Wyse,

I thought that name would be very apropos, because he looks so wise and wonderful.

He’s made out of something called “sculpey” – which needs to be fired like ceramic. He’s a wonderful one-of-a-kind creation, with a sculpted face and hands that are so dear. You can almost hear him breathing.

He’s 17 in. tall, quite incredible, and his glass eyes are a dark, mysterious brown. Boy, is he sharp as a tack !

Whiskers are like a curly sheep wool, and his little legs are precious like a newborn’s. His skin is soft and smooth. (I checked him all over, and he didn’t mind a bit.)

His perfectly-shaped ears are superb, and he has a cute chubby bottom. His legs and bottom are covered in one-piece stockings (like pantyhose) made from a very soft, ribbed white material. Attached to his belt is the tiniest leather side purse I’ve ever seen.

On HIM, wrinkles look great! Isn’t it amazing how the Gnomes we bring into our homes have wrinkles that enhance their personalities? The more wrinkles, the merrier. We humans don’t want them though!

Mr. Wyse has bonded with my bedroom Gnomes – and today he’s bonding with those in the living room.

“Mr. Humble”

That’s the name I gave this fellow. He’s 9 ½ in. tall, made by hand, and his face just about says it all for his humble personality. His ears couldn’t possibly be more adorable!

Mr. Humble’s face is a composition. His hat is a felt-like material, clothes are cloth, and his hair is real fur.

A heartbeat was unmistakable when I put the palm of my human hand under his precious clasped hands.

His eyes truly spoke to me – and his stance is definitely that of a Gnome deep in thought. I hope that, in time, he’ll share a few of those thoughts with me.

I would guesstimate that his age is somewhere between that of an older middle-aged Gnome and a young senior citizen Gnome. I don’t know how secretive Gnomes are about their ages. We all know, of course, that it’s very bad manners to ask anyone’s age when we’re actually talking with them. I can only hope, therefore, that Mr. Humble will whisper his age to me as we bond.

Gnomes are extremely secretive about most aspects of their lives – especially their language (except for their farewell greeting “Slitzweitz”). They rarely communicate verbally with a human, even if that human is trustworthy. I’ve never heard of a human being invited to join Gnomes gathered in a forest or woodland area.

I’m aware of a particularly marvelous little Gnome appearing to a Gnome-lovin’ human friend of mine in a Canadian hotel bedroom. What a wonderful experience, and one that I’d surely welcome at any time, anywhere.

I don’t know what country Mr. Humble was born in, but he came through a California estate sale to reach me in Florida. I’ll have to investigate the name on a little tag attached to his hat.

Pablo ("Paul") w. the Sculpey face and hand

The Gnome himself sure is different -- his face and eyes are wonderful. His fingers are so detailed. I could hear his heart beating when I brought the box into the house.
