New Gnomes for 2008

We recently attended a lawn and garden convention where I met some wonderful new solar gnomes and some wooden caps!

To view some of the great solar gnomes visit the Google web site and do an "IMAGE" search. There are a lot of new gnomes which are solar lighted. What a great invention - using solar energy saves mother nature's natural resources - and money too!

And here is a picture of the new wooden caps! I absolutely fell in love with them...put them on your 2008 "must have" lists!

Sarah's Crafty Corner

Anyone have patterns to make gnome finger puppets? They would make great gifts for little gnomes! They could be used to teach about environmental concerns.

Making Paper from junk mail...

QueenGnome has been busy down in the Gnome Workshop making paper from recycled junk mail; what a wonderful hobby. You can add garden seeds to the blended pulp and put the sheets out in the garden. Cover with a bit of soil and water. Soon you will have a mini patch of flowers sprouting! Insert these into your greeting cards (made from your very own paper and decorated with some of those new rubber gnome stamps) as little gifts. Don't worry if folks do not have gardens, they can spruce up nature and plant them in the wild!

Check out the www.arnoldgrummer.com web site and watch the short video on paper making.

Gnome Celebrations

October 17 Ms Gnomer Universe Pageant
October 29 Porridge Day
October 31 Halloween or "Gnome Bones About It" Day
Early November Potato Blessing Day

The origins of this tradition remain a closely guarded secret. Some gnomes believe its purpose is to keep the eyes of potatoes closed, instead of sprouting. Others think it stems from the days when potatoes first were brought from America and that it was practised by the Painted gnomes of Virginia.

November 6 Election Day - Gnominate-a-Gnome

On this day every year ballots are delivered by the gnomes. It is their Election Day...but no human has been able to discover why a gnome is elected or to what position! What do you think?

December 1 Gnomes, Shake-Your-Head Day
December 1 Gnomers' Day - (to honor human gnome collectors)
December 22 Annual Grog Celebrations
December 25 Christmas
10 days after the third quarter day in each year Hopping Mouse Branding Day (Australia) I am not sure what day this would be if anyone can tell me please do!
4 times a year - secret dates Feasts of Gnomancy (Australia)

Dear Barbara: I'm happy because we are connected again. I am sending you some pictures of my favorites gnomes and boxes with tiles painting by me. I am learning painting typical Portuguese tiles. I love to work on it. I hope you like these pictures. My new little gnome was bought in san martin de los Andes (Patagonia Argentina). And he is the one that is seated on the tree branch called "Lenga"; The tree (lenga) has a lot of beard. For me I believe is gnome's beard. But is called old man's beard. I bought in Argentina the book named "El mágico mundo de los DUENDES" too. It is in Spanish, but i will translate for you the best stories.
My warm regards. A hug for you.
Cris Gnome.
