Motto: "We Care About Nature"
This new book was
delightful to read. The text is done entirely in beautiful poetry.
There are four chapters (77 pages) covering Uffe's adventures in spring, summer, autumn and winter.
The expressive illustrations are adorable.
I think it will appeal to young children and adults because of the style in which it is written. Poetry can often be very stuffy or stiff - and this book's style is anything but.
The writers are Valerie Baadh and Michael Garrett. Illustrations by Cam. This paperback was first printed in December of 2007, and the ISBN is 13:978-0-615-17965-0.
I found Uffe on eBay (Amazon didn't have him). You can also order from www.uffethegnome.com.
Review by Gnome Devotee G9
For either a dining room dinner or kitchen cup of coffee with friends, I always bring out something with a Gnome design. Even sugar packets, mints or a tea bag never fail to bring a smile to guest's faces when conveyed by something depicting Gnomes.
I've accumulated
lots of Gnome china pieces - mugs, plates, glassware, serving trays large and
small. Gnome napkins are fun, too. Guests enjoy it all and ask where I found the
items.
For years, I used many precious things only for holidays and special dinners … but I now use them on a regular (kind of rotation) basis. They're easy enough to retrieve from a dining room adjacent to my kitchen.
Saving things to use only for special occasions seems silly. Why "save" for someone else to inherit and enjoy? None of it ever goes into the dishwasher, but each thing I tenderly wash is a pleasure.
Don't keep little Gnome accessories hidden away for use only on special occasions! Use them often! I enjoy many little table items even without having company!
With our whole world in so much man-made trouble, we all need especially tender everyday pleasures. I think Gnome lovers and collectors are ahead of the game!

Dear QueenGnome,
I was perusing your website this weekend in an attempt to learn more about the world of gnoming and I stumbled across your page of notable dates and celebrations, which includes a day marked as Penguin Dusting Day in Australia.
I have owned a penguin called Clive for just over a year and am yet to dust him - oddly, this practice isn't mentioned in any of the pet care books I have. Could you explain more about this festival? I am concerned that I may be depriving Clive of important treatment.
Many thanks,
- Chris.
RESPONSE:
Greetings, In the book, Australian Gnomes, by Robert Ingpen he discusses this
celebration as follows:
"As we humans maintain a steady pollution of the shoreline of southern Australia, the Fairy penguin finds increasing difficulty in keeping clean and laundered. His white shirtfront is particularly susceptible to staining. Foreshore gnomes help out with an annual drybrushing and dusting parade where penguins are mustered and marshaled in long lines to be carefully brushed, but never tickled. These hardworking gnomes also keep a record of where the dirtiest penguins are found. Students of environmental conservation would do well to apply for copies of these penguin laundry lists."
Kindest Regards, Barbara Szijarto aka QueenGnome President, World Wide Gnome Association

Did anyone happen to obtain one of those knitting patterns by Allan Dart for the knitted gnome pattern? Or, do you happen to have a copy of the Christmas Gifts Extra Supplement with came free with issue #8 of the Simply Knitting magazine which featured this pattern? If so and you are willing to share it or part with it contact QueenGnome.

I'm in the process of building a gnome condo out of an old tree trunk. As I'm building this to scale I need to find gnomes in the 5 to 6 inch in height range.
I have constructed a number of houses to mount on the trunk, house have hand split wood shingles on the roof, a deck , waterfalls with a pool and paddle wheel, an outhouse as all gnomes need an outhouse.
Actually it is coming quite nice, and now it is time for my little buddies to start moving in. Do you know where I can find these little guys. I do have some, but can't seem to find a good selection. Thank you for your time.

Greetings,
I bring news from the other side....

Gnomehood, the time has come to band together and regain our rightful place in the gardening scene. We, The Gnomads, need your help to break the ban on gnomes at the Tatton Park Flower Show.
For 20 years the RHS has banned gnomes from Flower Shows for being too tacky. It is time to put an end to this ignominy.
Previous pro-gnome protests have stopped at the gates. This time we want your help to sneak great garden gnomes into the show and plant them in displays. Become a Trojan Gnome and show the RHS it needs to abolish this ridiculous policy!
Please also support gnome rights by signing our petition, which we will forward to the RHS.
