Book Reviews

Watch for some of the following books - books always make perfect gifts to give or receive during the festive season.

“SANTA’S LITTLE HELPER”
By Anu Stohner
Illustrations by Henrike Wilson

This book is large but not thick. It’s also absolutely delightful and heartwarming.

The ‘little Helper’ doesn’t have a name other than ‘little Helper’ (with a capital ‘H’). Because he’s small in stature, the other Gnomes don’t include him in delivering the presents they’ve made. Nevertheless, the little Helper keeps making Christmas presents in anticipation of one day being included with the rest of the Gnomes.

After they leave once again, he strolls into the forest and overhears all the animals talking about how they saw the Gnomes take off to make deliveries – yet nothing is ever given to the animals of the forest! Little Helper scoots back to his home and gathers up all the presents he’s made during the year. He dashes back to the forest to give them to the animals. The animals are thrilled and grateful, because at last they have a special reason to celebrate, too!

When all the other Gnomes return from their delivery route, little Helper tells the chief Gnome what he’s done. The chief is so surprised and very, very proud of little Helper – and even names him “Santa of the Animals.”

For children, a good moral of the story is little Helper’s indomitable spirit and patience. Not knowing if he’d be included in the group of other Gnomes, he still maintained a positive, optimistic attitude while he had fun making things that might not even be delivered! Once again, when he learns that the other Gnomes aren’t including him in their journey – he doesn’t act up or display hurt feelings. Instead, he pays attention to the forest animals … happens upon an occasion for sharing … and thereby turns his own inner sadness around by making the forest animals happy. He also made a lot of new friends among the forest animals!

I found this book through Amazon.com for $6.49 plus postage. (The price inside the cover is $15.95.)

It shouldn’t be hard to find the book elsewhere with holidays approaching.

I read this 348 page book and found it to be an entertaining book with some twists on concrete gnomes. It is written to appeal to both teenagers and adults. It has a bit of a Lord of the Rings theme and contains adventures similar to those contained in the famous Hobbit adventures. Ever wonder about dragonflies? This story book will certainly provide you with some new insight on their ancestry!

I highly recommend this as a wonderful gift! QueenGnome G9

Feature Artist,

HEINRICH SCHLITT 1849 - 1923

There is a book about the works of Heinrich Schlitt who was known as Munich's Painter of gnomes. However Schlitt painted much more than just gnomes, he also designed beer steins and other ceramic pieces. It is a rare book and his art is simply amazing.

Greetings!

It's been awhile since we've last talked, but we just wanted to let you know that we're still around. In fact, we are in the process of relaunching Gnomads.net, and we need your help.

First, let us introduce ourselves. We are obos earth, a tight group of friends who stumbled across the Gnomads website at a time when the owners were looking for someone to pass on the project to. Since we have the same excitement for "traveling" gnomes that they had, we found Gnomads to be a brilliant idea that just needed a little love and attention.

We are in the process of redeveloping the Gnomads experience. We see this as a social experiment to increase interaction and awareness, and to add a touch of whimsy to everyday life.

This is truly a labor of love for us and we would like to ask you to join us in planting the seeds to grow a worldwide community. Part of our mission is to have a free flow of ideas on every aspect of this project. We would like to invite you to join the conversation....

It won't take very long, we promise! Follow this link to complete the online survey.

We can't thank you enough for your support of Gnomads, and we look forward to traveling with you soon.

Cheers,
