25 july 2002Wendy, Jen and Dianna ventured into the water with the children and had great fun playing and splashing about. Jen was the designated lifeguard for Stephen, which proved to be a full-time job. This is evidenced in a photo clearly depicting her gazelle-like stride as she chased him through the water to stay within saving-distance. Emma took fondly to the water, and after initial trepidation she progressed from splashing to digging in the mud to cheerfully walking about, all of which was accompanied by a running commentary in Emma-ese (see many photos.) Cal dragged Grandma through many relay runs between the far reaches of the lake and Grandpa's chair on the shore ("Let's see Grandpa" vs. "Let's go in the water".) Clara and Andrew were content to just enjoy the weather, the water, the people and the rice krispie squares. After the departure of the Airdrie MacLeods and Australian Kornelsons (an auspicious exit by not-quite-ready-for-Indy Duncan behind the wheel of the (standard) Tracker), we went to Greg and Theresa's campsite for some wine, salad, buffalo and relaxaion. A lovely spot and a lovely time. We should definitely do this more often (and on a larger scale!) Note that two of the photos show the first official meeting of Bernadette Kennedy's Great Grandchildren (a very exclusive club. Now recruiting!) |
