Greens and Gourmet Restaurant - 630 pm
First Meeting to discuss mutual interests
Attendees:
C. Wong, J. Hoopes, J. Cox - Maverick Cat Coalition
M. Soroski (trapper not affiliated to any group)
K. Duncan - Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue (VOKRA)
TRAPPING
M. Soroski would like help with trapping and a list
of trappers with the areas they will help out listed.
She also needs a garage in the Vancouver area to post-op
cats that have been neutered. There will be a small
shelter
available in the Southlands area later on but that
can only accommodate 11-15 cats at the most and is
a temporary measure. She has identified several locations
which she is unable to deal with. She receives funding
from VOKRA and Citizens for Pet Population Control
Society and deals with about 300 cats per year.
FOSTER CARE
K. Duncan is in need of additional foster homes for
the care of kittens prior to adoption.
FUNDING
C. Wong is suggesting a collaborative effort to request
funds from Vancouver Foundation. With an average of
$50/cat (includes spay or neuter, tattoo, 3-1 (distemper,
rhino, calicia), revolution)) a request of $20,000
would be
proposed. Included with the concept would be free
spay days funded by the SPCA. A comprehensive list
of vets should be compiled as well.
PARTICIPANTS
TO OUR MEETINGS
There was some discussion about other groups and J.
Hoopes will make an effort to contact them to determine
their interest.
Potential goals:
- Compile a list of available trappers in the lower
mainland and where they will trap
- Compile a list of volunteers who would be willing
to help with fostering and post-operative care of
animals following medical treatment
- Increase efforts to recruit new trappers, especially
in problem areas
- Create a comprehensive list of vets who will help
and for what purposes (ongoing, specific events,
etc.)
