Port Moody, BC, March 27, 2005
Easters notoriety for rabbit purchases, when
many rabbits end up unwanted in shelters or set
loose in the wild, led the Port Moody Station Museums
Oana Capota to add an educational element to
their Easter celebrations (March 27, 12 noon to 2
PM). With the celebrity of the day being the
Easter bunny, the Museum invited animal rescue and
non-profit organizations from around the Lower Mainland
to publicize the fate of his fellow rabbits and other
pets who find themselves in dire straits.
Our Easter Sunday celebration is a great time
to educate the public and introduce them to animal
groups of which they may not have been aware,
said Capota. There are a huge number of
animal groups in the area, devoted from everything
from miniature pigs to Chihuahuas and greyhounds,
and they need to get the word out.
The Easter Sunday celebrations also include the famous
old-fashioned Easter Egg Hunt (12 noon to 1 PM, no
early birds please), a hat-making workshop (12
noon 2 PM) where visitors can make Easter bonnets,
wizard caps and samurai helmets, and the Pet Parade
(1 PM) with fabulous prizes supplied by local merchants.
The Museum recommends a $5 donation for these
activities and that participants pre-register for
these events to ensure there are enough treats and
crafts for everyone, while anybody can drop in to
the Museums face-painting tent.
The Port Moody Station Museum (http://vcn.bc.ca/pmmuseum),
located at 2734 Murray Street in Port Moody next to
Rocky Point Park, is owned and operated by the non-profit
Port Moody Heritage Society, and is part of their
effort to promote increased awareness and knowledge
of Port Moody's heritage and history. The Museum
is open daily from 12 noon to 4 pm, and admission
is by donation.
