Hero's Story Inspiring
Editor, the Record:
Re: Remembering a hero's act, The
Record, June 16.
I've rescued and/or helped hundreds
of cats. Kevin Anderson's story made me more aware
of my own actions. There are risks involved, especially
at night.
My volunteers are heroes, too.
We receive no money for what we do.
We do not sell cats or kittens. We pay their vet bills
and find them homes.
If they are wild cats, we get them
to the vet for basic medical care, then release them
back to their home territory, where our volunteers
will care for them (again, usually late at night).
There is no payoff - only knowing
that we are alleviating the suffering of other living
beings.
I respect people like Kevin Anderson.
He stopped his car and took action.
The story also left me with a sense
of pride for what we do in animal rescue.
We will be more careful now, as well
- because of his tragic accident.
Not many people are aware of what
we do, and not many will hear about it.
But many of our donations and support
come from people who have seen us in action. I think
our work builds character as well; just be doing what
we know is right.
I'm glad Kevin is being recognized
for what he did that fateful night.
Thanks for publishing his story.
