Ethics and Guidelines for
Volunteers
The reputation of any nonprofit organization
derives from a number of areas:
- The quality of the service it provides.
- Its business acumen.
- The honesty and integrity of its volunteers.
|
|
In terms of human conduct, the terms right
and wrong are not often heard; they are swept aside
in the name of expediency, profit and self interest.
This short paper sets out quite clearly the standards
of behaviour expected from volunteers of MCC. The continued involvement
of any volunteer can only be maintained if the highest levels of
honesty and reliability are maintained.
A volunteer has certain directional relationships.
These are towards other people, animals, property and local authority.
These relationships involve a person in certain
duties and obligations, whereby the following guidelines must be
applied:
- MCC expects all volunteers to practice the highest
ethical principles especially in relation to truth and fair dealing,
acting at all times with honesty and sincerity.
- MCC expects all volunteers in the performance
of their duties to refrain from any practice which might be regarded
as discriminatory on grounds of race, culture, language, religion,
ancestry, gender, marital or socioeconomic status, sexual orientation,
political affiliation or physical or mental disadvantage.
- Volunteers shall familiarize themselves with
the MCC Conflict of Interest Policy and observe the policy at
all times (see Page 3).
- In all relationships, volunteers shall act with
the best interests of the cats as their primary focus. If force
has to be used to capture or restrain a cat, it shall be the absolute
minimum necessary.
- All volunteers shall respect private property
and must understand that theft or unauthorized use of anothers
property, is totally unacceptable.
- MCC expects and requires observance of the principles
set out in this policy. Volunteers must familiarize themselves
with this policy and request clarification, if required, from
the Volunteer Coordinator.
