Metchosin Community Helpline
Call for Expressions of InterestMetchosin Community Helpline is part of the Active Aging in Metchosin Initiative
PURPOSE: To help develop and staff a seniors’ information and referral helpline.
The Metchosin Community Association (MCA), in conjunction with the Healthy Community Advisory Select Committee, has received a grant to establish a helpline for seniors in Metchosin. MCA is inviting individuals who would be interested in taking on the role of paid, part-time coordinator of the project, to submit expressions of interest before April 6, 2012. Preference will be given to people who live in Metchosin.
MCA estimates the contract will run 9 months, in the initial phase, and require approximately 20 hours per week. An office will be provided in Metchosin Community House, but some of the work may be done from your home or other satellite location.
The work will include, but will not necessarily be limited to:
- Researching, compiling and organizing information, from diverse sources and inputting it into a computer, indexed it by key words;
- Responding to requests for information over the telephone and face-to-face;
- Helping to facilitate responses to the particular needs of Metchosin seniors;
- Setting up and overseeing schedules for volunteer helpline responders;
- Contacting and negotiating with businesses that may wish to offer a discount in exchange for being part of the referral service;
- Logging calls and organizing data into reports and updating websites;
- Advising MCA and the Healthy Community Committee on matters relating to services for seniors.
MCA is looking for someone with excellent telephone manner and strong inter-person and communication skills -- a problem solver with good computer skills.
Your submission should include the reasons you are interested in taking on the project and how your background, experience and skills qualify you to do so.
