Gore Township Crown Land Grants

Background: The list contains the names of all grantees who received title to lands from the Crown (government) before 1891. Your ancestor would not appear here if a) they received patent to their land after 1890, or b) they purchased their property from another settler, or c) they were squatters on Crown land.

It is important to note that these people may have been on their land for a number of years before they received title to the property. As an example, my ancestor Andrew Timmins appeared in the 1825 census, received a ticket of location in 1829 and fulfilled his settlement requirements by 1832, but letters-patent were not issued until 1840.

Gore Township was laid out in six ranges of 18 lots each. The ranges were numbered beginning with I along the southern boundary of the township through VI along the northern boundary with Mille Isles. The lots (deeper than they were wide) in each range were numbered from 1 on the western perimeter of Gore through 18 on the eastern border. Each lot contained about 200 acres, more or less, with the exception of lots numbered 18, which appear to have been considerably narrower and contained less acreage.
