MT BIKE RIDE 150 MIN / 064 MT WORK/01 dave/04 fokkema/06 mike/07 sudbury/08 jim jammer/14 karl/17 tor /20 gene/22 jon t/odo 02228 superlite the bike / 064 MT WORK/[044.83[KM[76.20[MAX[18.71[AVS[02228[BBM big turnout with 12 riders and we were graced the talented curtis ; max and mat hewwit / they gave the ride a sense that this will be a tough ride / very warm night / leg warmers came off at the very start / we went right out to highland road to bypass the cairn to avoid flats and get out to mt work before the light failed very close to summer like riding with just shorts and a jersey climb up highland road and work our way over to munn road where the serious no joke climbing played out / a lead group of six riders set the pace with karl curtis and eugene watching as max and mat climbed the road as if it were flat jammer and I rode side by side exchanging blows as if it were a boxing match rather than a bike race / we regrouped at the parking lot and began to climb in earnest as we entered the single track tor set the pace / with his riding skill and trail savvy forcing him to expend enough energy to take it's toll later in the ride the exquisite trails have transformed from slippery unridable rooty bush to groomed choice single track / we did a grand loop giving the riders who have not been there before a taste of the vast and beautiful trails on the side of mt work the expert guides led us back to the fire road that would lead us to the hartland trails / the tough climbs back to the park showed that all the riders were tired and not willing to force the pace / a screaming descent and we almost missed the entrance to the famous "who's yer daddy" trail / sliding side ways eugene curtis jon t and i formed a tight knit group that made it through the trail with time to rest till the stragglers caught up/ regroup and drop to the parking lot while we waited for 20 minutes for jon t to change both front and rear tires ,... yuck finally leave with the road descent that hits speeds of over 76 kph !!! onto west saanich road and the pace was wild with the pro racers determined to shed themselves of the local hacks ( regular thursday riders) blistering attacks failed to let the fast guys get away / a fast chase down interurban road allowed max and mat squeak through the red light that stopped the rest of the riders we were able to regroup on the goose trail and line up for the switch bridge sprint / max and mat first and second across the bridge with a gap that had eugene put power on to chase them down / i closed to eugene and karl reeled us in with curtis on his wheel meanwhile way back tor got dropped :) as max and mat were winding up for a sure win karl trumps them and delivers curtis fresh to the line where he put in a vicious kick to score a brilliant victory this ended another tough hard thursday ride
