The Grande Prairie Fire Department’s Combat Challenge Team started competing in 2000. Our first year took us to one competition, the Prairie Regionals in Vermilion. Being new to the challenge, we found out that this was a very demanding sport and finished off the year with a combined team time of 6 minutes and 15 seconds. This was a respectable time but the team realized that we would have to train harder if we wanted to be successful and competitive at it. Over the past three years we have had consistent number of team members and have competed in numerous regional events. In 2002 Grande Prairie was represented at the Canadian Nationals competition in Windsor, Ontario for the first time. With a desire be successful, this team has the opportunity to become one of the top "contenders" at the Canadian Nationals in the near future.
