Melrose Randell holds the Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in English Literature and Language from The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. and the Diploma of Education from The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Jamaica. She studied with Joyce Britton and Robert Williams at the Jamaica School of Music and received the Voice Teacher’s Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music from London, England. She continues to study and observe the human voice through teaching and performing. To this end, she participated in the Richard Miller Summer Masterclasses held at Oberlin Conservatory, Ohio and reads avidly, the findings of other vocal researchers and teachers. Mic

In 1980 she started the choral program at Camille J. Lerouge Catholic High School, and later at Notre Dame High School and presented the choir in concerts and festivals in which they won many awards. She has maintained a private voice studio for more than 25 years in Red Deer and in Lacombe, where she lives.

She produced and directed Gian Carlo Menotti’s Christmas opera, Amahl and the Night Visitors, and has performed the role of Amahl’s Mother. Her performance career includes recitals and concerts in Jamaica, Mexico and Central Alberta and her repertoire includes Art Songs, Operatic and Oratorio Arias, Sacred and Classical-Musical theatre songs. She is a regular song leader at church services and functions, and is an adjudicator and vocalsheet clinician. Many of her students have gone on to successful careers in opera, popular, jazz, and country music, and her present students continue to do well in universities, competitions, festivals, and the Royal Conservatory of Music exams.

Melrose was one of the founding members of the Edmonton chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and continues to be an active NATS member. She is a member of the Canadian Voice Care Foundation and in her teaching, focuses on vocal health and longevity. She was also president of the Alberta Music Education Foundation (www.amef.ca), and past president of the Red Deer branch of the Alberta Registered Music Teachers Association.
