Welcome/Bienvenue

This past summer I began taking course work towards a diploma in early childhood education. I understood that as a future kindergarten teacher I needed to better understand the learning and development that happens during the early years. I was inspired to begin a classroom blog after meeting a teacher that had showed me her class blog she made using her Mac laptop. I knew right away that if I tried, I would be able to do it as well.

I had never blogged before but I was an avid follower of several early childhood blogs sharing ideas and resources for play-based learning. I knew that technology plays an active role in our lifestyles and predicted that many families would be able to also follow the classroom blog.

One of the key practices we learn to do in teacher’s college is to constantly be reflecting on your teaching practice. Writing a blog is one way that I reflect on my days with my students, the activities I prepare for them, the materials and spaces I set up, the lessons I teach. Writing about all this forces me to constantly be reflecting on why and what I am doing, and more importantly what and how my students are learning.

Blogging also gives me the opportunity to create a sense of continuity between a student’s home and school life. I wanted there to be a way for children to view themselves, their friends, and classroom on the blog and have a starting point to share their experiences at school with their families at home. Blogging has also been a way for me to share with parents my approach and philosophy to the play-based learning happening in our kindergarten classroom.

I appreciate the time you take to read and view my blog with your child. My hope is that it is a time to connect with your child and their beginning school life.
