ISC Qualifying Tournamenthosted by Lloydminster Dodgers June 25-26, 2005 ![]() The weekend of June 25th and 26th called for the Fury to participate in another ISC qualifier hosted by the Lloydminster Dodgers. Again the tournament featured very high caliber fastball. The field consisted of two senior A or ISC 1 teams, Saskatoon Black Sox’s, and Saskatoon Merchants, also three senior B or ISC 2 teams with one junior A team, Calgary Cobras, Lloydminster Dodgers, Camrose Fury, and the Saskatoon Jr. Diamondbacks. The Fury opened up the tournament against the Saskatoon Jr’s 10:00am Saturday. After being off for two weeks the Fury had a hard time generating any type of an offensive attack. Scoreless into the 6th inning the Saskatoon team scored four unearned runs and went on to a 4 to 0 win. Ryan Grant pitched 7 strong innings with 10K’s no walks and 6 hits in taking the loss. The few offensive contributors included Ryan Galenza going 2 for 2, with Andy Johnston and Scott Galenza each going 1 for 2. The Fury’s next game came at 2:00pm against the Saskatoon Merchants. The Merchants got out to an early 5 to 0 lead before the Fury’s bats finally woke up, scoring two runs in the top of the 5th and two more in the 6th. The game was called on time limit in the bottom of the 6th, with the final score being 5 to 4. Brian Graham through an adventurous 5 1/3 innings with 9K’s, 11 walks, and gave up only 2 hits one being a 2-run Hr the other a 3-run Hr. Scott Galenza and Andy Johnston were each 2 for 3, Ryan Galenza was 1 for 3 with a Hr. The last game of the day came at 4:00pm against the Saskatoon Black Sox’s. The sox’s came out flying, routing the Fury 17-0 in 4 innings. Enough said!! Sunday was a new day for the Fury, they needed to bounce back after a ruff Saturday and reinstate some of the confidence and intensity that the Fury is known to play with. The day opened up at 10:00am against one of their senior B provincial rival, the Calgary Cobras. The Cobras held a 1 or 2 run lead through out the entire game. With the Fury down 4 to 2 into the bottom of the 7th inning and two out Shane Milligan hit a solo home run to cut the lead to 1 run. Next batter Scott Galenza reached base as a result of a fielding error setting the stage for big brother Ryan Galenza who hit a walk off, two run home run to give the Fury a 5 to 4 victory. Brian Graham was the winning pitcher throwing solid 7 innings with 12K’s, 5 walks, allowing only 4 hits but 3 of them were of the home run variety. The final game of the tournament came at 2:00pm against the host Lloydminster Dodgers. The Fury came into the game more relaxed and confident than any other game of the season. It showed by posting a 7 to 3 victory against a tuff pitcher in Dean Jones from Calgary. There were many contributors to the offence, Brad Dingman 2 for 3, Les Ford 2 for 4 with a Hr, Shane Milligan 1 for 3, Andy Johnston 1 for 3 with a Hr, and last but certainly not least Scott Galenza 3 for 4. The winning pitcher was Ryan Grant who through 7 strong innings with 8K’s, 1 walk, while scattering 8 hits. Recap by Ryan Jacobsen |
