PACE - Frequent Asked Questions

Does PACE work only with women?

 

No, PACE works with individuals of all genders. PACE Society, since its inception, has driven the movement toward systemic change in social attitudes, treatment, and the condition with which adults and children who are trapped in cycles of sexual exchange are forced to live. We hope for the inclusion of all genders in this plight.

 

 

What kind of counselling is provided?

While the acronym includes counselling PACE prefers to refer to this aspect of PACE’s services as support. Through support services, support aims to provide individual counseling, referrals, and advocacy; individual support with setting and attaining goals; identifying and mobilizing individual assets; facilitating and/or referring to support groups; one-on-one assistance with education and employment and skills training programs.

Does PACE advocate on issues other than the sex trade?

Yes, the survival sex trade is a symptom of greater societal problems. Among other things PACE advocates for: affordable housing, access to health and addiction services, safety, personal asset building, asset mobilization, child custody, bridging support, landlord/ tenancy disputes, reunification of families and legal reform.

Are all PACE staff former sex workers?

No, while PACE does have a number of former sex workers on staff, PACE reflects a wide range of experiences within and outside of sex work experiences.

Who sits on our Board of Directors?

Members of the Board of Directors are individuals with a wide range of backgrounds. Please refer to our staff/board page in the “About Us” section of this website for a complete list of Board members.

What are your hours of operation?

Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m or by appointment. Please call before visiting PACE to ensure that the doors are open.  604-872-7651

What are the types of skills PACE looks for when hiring employees?

Skills vary depending on the position available. Hiring preference is always given to women or men who have direct experience in the sex industry in addition to appropriate skills and education.  Please refer to the staff/board page in the “About Us” section for more information.

What kind of education do you provide?

PACE education services provides interactive workshops, community presentations, customized curriculum/ lesson plans/ manuals/ videos, and specific awareness campaigns and social marketing strategies.
