Stanley

The first known Stanley in Gaspe that I can find a record of is Henry Stanley.  In the 1825 census he is living in the Gaspe area and there are 5 people in his household.  Henry married Hannah Lucas, and I have record of 7 children who were born between 1820 - 1840.  I do not know where Henry was born, but he died in 1853 at 63 years old.

I believe that Henry had at least 2 brothers (William and Thomas) and a sister (Martha) who moved to Gaspe around the same time.

William Stanley, who married Martha Lucas in 1830.  They lived in Cape Cove.  William is in the 1831 Census as being the owner of the land which he occupied, a fisherman, belonging to the Church of England.  There were 2 people in his house. They had 1 daughter, and William died 9 months after his daughter was born in 1832.

Thomas Stanley, whom I cannot find in the 1825 and 1831 census, but in 1838, he married Ann Prunty from Ireland. In the 1861 census it says that he was born in Gaspe.  Thomas and Ann had 1 child, a boy.  Thomas died in 1874.  In the records it says that he was born in 1802.

Martha Stanley married Hugh Cunning and the first record I can find on her, is in the record of her son Frederick in 1831.  Martha and Hugh had 7 children.
