                                                                                       John Adams

Like many of my Gaspe Ancestors, information on John is sketchy at best.  I have never found any info on John’s parents, or when and where John came from.  Here is what is known about John Adams.

John born around 1782, married Frances Hayden, daughter of Abraham Hayden and Georgia Howard.  They had 8 sons -- Abraham, John, Pierre (Peter), Joseph, Thomas, Felix (Philip), James and Matthew.  John and his family lived in Lobster Cove, Gaspe.  John died in 1847 when he accidentally fell off his barn loft.  It is also known that the Adams were mainly of Catholic Religion.

Here are some interesting clues that I have found on John’s origins.  In the Gaspe 1871 census John’s sons Abraham, John, Felix, James and Matthew listed there nationality as German.  Some people say that John’s parents were loyalists who came to the Gaspe area after the revolution.

If you are related to the Adams from Gaspe you are probably from one of John’s sons, so please e-mail me at parobert@telusplanet.net
