b. circa 1787 probably in County Sligo, Ireland; d. 9 January 1837 in County Sligo, Ireland. m. Sarah BLACK (b. circa 1787 in Ireland; d. 1 Oct 1865 in Anderdon Township, Essex County, Canada West). Both John and Sarah were natives of County Sligo, Ireland. John was probably a tenent farmer of Major Charles O'Hara. He was accidentally killed in his native land. His widow, with her three youngest children, immigrated to Canada and settled in Anderdon Township in 1843. After being here awhile, Sarah sent money back to Ireland for a headstone to be made for her late husband. A headstone in the Church of Ireland Cemetery, Collooney, Ireland is engraved "John Petepies, d. Jan 9 1837, erected by his wife Sarah". Sarah's will was signed with an 'X', which could explain the misspelling of the name on the headstone. Her estate was valued at some $600 when she died at the age of 79.
