PTSD (Post-traumatic Stress Disorder) is a delayed psychological response to traumatic events.
* Reliving the trauma
through thoughts, dreams, "flashbacks," emotions, or bodily reactions.
* Problems with sleeping.
* Poor concentration.
* Being constantly "on guard" or being easily startled.
* Finding yourself avoiding things that remind you of the trauma.
* Feeling detached or numb, or completely "spacing out."
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprogramming) is alleged to be an effective treatment for PTSD, and here's why I don't use it.
Instead, we will use the techniques of cognitive behavioural therapy, which the US National Center for PTSD "unanimously" recognizes as most effective. You can tell me as much or as little of your story as you are ready to, and I will give you tools to avoid getting overwhelmed or numbing out. If you suffer from depression, we will deal with it at the same time.
