Taming the Dragon
Secondary Trauma Management for Field Professionals

Presented by Rebekah Demirel R.Ac., R.P.C., L.Ac.

Taming the Dragon is a groundbreaking two-hour training seminar, long overdue for service providers in occupations where service on the front lines can cause stress. Secondary Trauma can and does occur routinely in many professional settings, where people are exposed to the pain and suffering of those they provide for.

Taming the Dragon is an in depth look at how the stress response, once activated, can become chronically stimulated, giving rise to a drop in immune function and a rise in disease of all types. A growing trend of absenteeism from work due to emotional stress is another major concern affecting all aspects of the workplace, with many serious repercussions.

Rebekah’s skillful and sensitive facilitation creates an arena where participants can explore a collection of stress management techniques, both old and new, from cutting-edge psychology to ancient Chinese medical concepts and treatments. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to try auricular acupuncture during the training, for a first hand experience of the powerful effects of relaxing and resetting the sympathetic nervous system.

Rebekah Demirel Rebekah Demirel R.Ac., R.P.C., L.Ac. has a wide range of experience in the healing arts, including fourteen years as an ambulance paramedic and over twenty years as a paramedic trainer. She is a clinical counselor specializing in post-traumatic stress and a classically trained acupuncturist and East Asian medicine practitioner. Rebekah developed Taming the Dragon, presenting it to social service agencies and other groups. She is a childhood survivor of the streets and the foster care system and a long-time advocate for women’s health and empowerment.
