All too often, choosing a lawyer is a painful process. Involvement in a car accident, facing criminal charges or being served with Court papers can seem like the end of the world. In these stressful circumstances you may not know what to do or where to turn. Your lawyer is not the biggest ad in the phone book: he or she is a highly trained professional who will provide you with opinions and advice based on years of education and experience. This is a big responsibility and one that all of us at RMcD Law Offices, lawyers and support staff alike, take very seriously.
Your doctor, dentist and other health professionals have access to your medical history and can look after you better not only because they are trained to, but because they know you. You take your vehicle to your favourite garage because you like the service and trust the mechanic's expertise and integrity. The law firm you choose to represent you must meet your needs and expectations. Whether buying or selling property, starting up an exciting new business venture, or planning for your family's future, our office is privileged to serve and honoured to be chosen to assist. In the unhappy event stressful circumstances do arise, our clients are better prepared to meet them with the support and resources of an experienced and service-oriented firm behind them.
R. (Ron) McDonald, Q.C. received his law degree from the University of Saskatchewan, attending evening classes while working days as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Mr. McDonald and his family moved to Lethbridge upon his graduation so that he could complete his Articles at the firm of Maxwell Larson. Mr. McDonald was called to the Alberta Bar in 1984 and hung out his shingle as a sole practitioner soon after. He received his 30-year pin from the Law Society in 2014.
Mr. McDonald's preferred areas of practice are Labour and Health Law (including contract negotiations, wrongful dismissal and severance package review), Residential and Commercial Real Estate Conveyancing (including Brookfield Relocations), Corporate & Commercial transactions and Litigation. He has represented clients at all three Alberta courts (Provincial, Queen's Bench and the Court of Appeal) and has extensive experience with administrative panels such as WCB and Alberta Human Rights. In addition to his regular case load, Mr. McDonald accepts referrals from Legal Representation for Children and Youth and is involved as a Mediator with Alberta Provicial Court (Civil Division.) He continues to pursue further training and certification in this field as he very much enjoys the alternative dispute resolution process.
What's with the Q.C.? Every two years, it is tradition in the province of Alberta that selected lawyers be recognized for their outstanding contributions to the legal profession or in public life by being appointed as Queen's Counsel. Mr. McDonald was honoured with this distinction by the Lieutenant Governor in Council in 2009.
