We have an extensive database of precedent documentation at the touch of a button, can access the most recent decisions and statutes online, use mobile phones and email in addition to the more traditional methods of keeping in touch and encourage all our staff to continue ongoing professional development. We are networked with Alberta Courts as well as Alberta Registries and offer exclusive access to Land Titles searches and document registration submissions as well as Accredited Level I, II & III Corporate Registry services to our clients. We are also pleased to assist transferred or relocated government employees through our supplier partnership with Brookfield Relocation Services (formerly Royal LePage Relocation Services.)

R. (Ron) McDONALD, Q.C. received his law degree from the University of Saskatchewan, having attended evening classes while working days as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Mr. McDonald and his family moved to Lethbridge upon his graduation so that he could complete his Articles at the firm of Maxwell Larson. Mr. McDonald was called to the Alberta Bar in 1984 and began work as a sole practitioner shortly thereafter. Mr. McDonald’s current professional affiliations and memberships include: the Law Society of Alberta, the Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers’ Association, the Christian Legal Fellowship and the Lethbridge/Fort Macleod Bar Association through which he participates in the real estate sub-committee. Mr. McDonald has attended two sessions of the International Academy of Apologetics, Evangelism & Human Rights at Trinity College & Seminary in Strasbourg and three Christian Legal Intervention Academies here in Canada. Mr. McDonald’s preferred areas of practice are Labour and Health Law (including contract negotiations, wrongful dismissal and severance package review), Residential and Commercial Real Estate Conveyancing, Corporate and Commercial Matters and Litigation. He has represented clients at all three Alberta Courts (Provincial, Queen’s Bench and the Court of Appeal) and has extensive experience with numerous administrative panels such as WCB and Alberta Human Rights. In addition to his regular case load, Mr. McDonald accepts referrals from Legal Representation for Children and Youth and is involved as a Mediator with the Alberta Provincial Court. He continues to pursue further training and certification in this field as he very much enjoys the alternative dispute resolution process.
What do the postnominals Q.C. mean? In Alberta, the Lieutenant Governor in Council appoints Queen’s Counsel recipients. Traditionally, the appointments are made every second year. The honorary title recognizes outstanding expertise, work and contributions in a lawyer’s public life. Mr. McDonald has held this distinction since 2009.

WILLIAM F. MALCOLM received his bachelor’s degree at the University of Lethbridge prior to becoming a fellow alumnus of the University of Saskatchewan. Mr. Malcolm articled with the firm of Fletcher Norton Pollock and was called to the Bar in 1986. RMcD Law Offices was pleased to announce his association with the firm in April, 2009. Mr. Malcolm brings years of courtroom experience to our firm and serves as our in-house Family Law expert, specializing in mediated separation, custody & access, and divorce. Mr. Malcolm accepts client referrals from Pre-Paid Legal Services as well as Alberta Legal Aid.

DAVID C. CAVILLA is the most recent addition to our firm. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Lethbridge, continuing on to graduate from the University of Calgary faculty of law in 1991. After completing his Articles at the local firm of Huckvale & Company, Mr. Cavilla was called to the Bar in 1992 and has over the past two decades established himself as a solid and respected legal professional. Mr. Cavilla has appeared before all levels of Court in Alberta as well as in the Federal Court of Canada. His practice focus is on Criminal, Civil Litigation, and Residential Real Estate. Mr. Cavilla also accepts Alberta Legal Aid referrals.
