As members of our trade association we find it beneficial to delineate the Structure of our Trade and Subscribe to the Maintenance of this Structure by our Conduct.
The Retailer
- is a firm that has a municipal business license.
- is a firm that has a showroom and/or office in a commercial/retail area.
- is a firm that has qualified personnel available during business hours.
- is a firm that maintains a business phone.
- is a firm that employs qualified floor covering technicians.
- is a firm that will strive to upgrade the skills of all personnel.
- is a firm that will abide by all decisions of the AFCA consumer service inspection reports..
The Supplier
- is a firm or agent who offers goods and services to the retailer, contract flooring firm, original equipment manufacturers and institutional service and supply organizations.
- is a firm or agent who for the purposes of definition and recognition, can be located locally with inventory and can offer goods and services from locations outside of this trading area, but under no circumstances should a supplier sell directly to the end user, except as defined above.
- is a firm or agent that offers the following services;
- Storing goods
- Breaking bulk
- Transporting and shipping
- Sampling
- Specifying
- Credit extension and credit counseling
- Sales training
- Product development
- Product adjustment and complaint reconciliation
- Product knowledge and technical information
- Merchandising services, advertising, display and promotion
- Industry and trade show promotion
- is a firm or agent that will not use credit as a selling tool.
- will abide by all decisions of the AFCA Consumer Services Inspection reports.
Objectives
- To represent the interest of its membership in the floor covering industry on issues pertaining to the construction industry.
- To encourage the proper use of the correct floor covering in the construction industry and by the general public and to encourage proper installations.
- To promote and maintain good business relations between members, specification writers, government and the general public.
- To cooperate with the Alberta Construction Association and with other industry associations on the constructions matters of local, provincial and national concern.
- To promote, through seminars and training, high standards in work performance and management skills.
- To promote fair and ethical business practices in the floor covering industry.
- To assist in the training and education of its members to meet future needs of the industry.
- To keep members informed of activities and developments within the industry and the Association.
Code of Ethics
Whereas the owners, managers and employees of this firm believe:
- In the profession in which we are engaged and continually strive to maintain the highest professional standards
- In fair business practices, honesty and integrity, never resorting to unfair trade practices that might reflect not only on our organization but on the entire industry
- In expressing our appreciation of patronage by avoiding misrepresentation of product and services, false promises or any statements that might lead to misconceptions on the part of the consumer
- In participating in education seminars and to keep abreast of new industry developments and technology
- In the aims and objectives of the AFCA and its continuing efforts toward advancement of the Floor Covering Industry
we, therefore subscribe to this Code of Ethics and will conduct our business affairs accordingly.

We further agree to abide by the Objectives and By-Laws of the Alberta Floor Covering Association, its Code of Ethics and itsCode of Trade and Practice. We agree to pay all annual dues of the Association duly passed by themembership.
