Not all vampires want to remain so. Such is the feeling of Valian de Mortenoire,
who is tired of his meaningless existence. The key to his salvation? Chancella
Tremaine, who has created a formula that could change his life. Posing as a
fellow scientist, Valian meets with Chancella, and though captivated by her
beauty, he can only think about getting rid of his dark side. But Valian is not
the only one after Chancella. An old enemy has resurfaced, determined to seek
revenge on Valian -- Jack, who believes Valian killed the woman he loved, and
therefore became a vampire himself. Valian is not about to let Chancella be the
pawn in a deadly game that has been going on for ages. Not only because she has
the cure for what plagues him, but also because she has opened up a part of
himself he thought long dead.
Chancella Tremaine knows vampires exist...she just hasn't met one yet. Her
theories are widely regarded by those who also believe in them, and she has even
created a "cure." When she meets Valian de Mortenoire, she is curious about the
handsome foreigner who is a little too interested in her work. When he claims to
be a vampire, Chancella believes him to be just like the rest of her groupies,
until Valian shows her his proof. But before she can question him further, he
disappears, and Chancella soon finds herself caught between two warring vampires
who want to use her to their own ends. Can she trust Valian to keep her safe?
And will her cure truly work on him?
A shadowy tale of one man's quest to rid himself of the evil that plagues him,
THE CURE by Susan Phelan is a unique and somber tale that vampire lovers are
sure to devour. Everyone assumes that all vampires like their life, but Ms.
Phelan creates a world where not all enjoy the lonely existence, especially
since they live forever. At first, Valian uses Chancella for purely professional
means; he can't deny his attraction to her, but won't allow himself to get
sidetracked. This is a vampire on a mission, and his perseverance to become
human is portrayed very realistically. Chancella is a very pragmatic young
woman, yet she has this other side to her that is almost childlike in her belief
in vampires. Once she finds out about Valian's true identity...well, let's just
say that curiosity can definitely kill the cat. As for Jack, the villain of the
tale, he is sly and just plain evil, but readers may have a bit of sympathy for
him once they realize why he is the way he is.
An engaging vampire tale, Susan Phelan's THE CURE is a must read!
