Subject: Husband's aviation accident

Dear Ms. Stevens:

I am writing in response to your electronic message of May 14, 2008, which was sent to the Labour Program's British Columbia/Yukon District Office.  You indicate that on March 4, 2008, you forwarded a request for information regarding the aviation accident that claimed the life of your husband, Mr. David Stevens, and four other workers on February 28, 2005.

May I begin by extending my deepest sympathy to you, your family and the families that were touched by this tragedy.  As Minister of Labour, I take the health and safety of Canadians very seriously.

Please be assured that Labour Program officials have been in contact with Transport Canada to obtain the information related to this tragic incident.  We anticipate receiving and reviewing the file by mid-August, at which time we will contact you.

Once again, please accept my condolences, and thank you for bringing this matter to my attention.
