Erastus Olsen’s 90th Birthday Celebration, April, 1953

All the children of Erastus Olsen gathered at the farm home of Ervin D. Olsen, in Diamond City, to celebrate the 90th birthday of their father. Clarence, the eldest son picked up his father and stepmother, Hannah, at Beazer, and motored to Lethbridge where they met others of the family, and went on to Diamond City for dinner and other festivities. Pictures, and other moving pictures, were taken of the group assembled, and other pictures shown. The company consisted of Clarence and wife of Cardston, Clara Ryan of Los Angeles, Murrell of Oregon, Myrtle Gill of Pocatello, and Carl and Wife of B.C.. Grandsons, Elmer, Ervin, Vern, Lloyd, Ned, and Lowell, with their wives, and Mrs. Ellen Prince and Mrs. Ruby Pierson, granddaughters of Mrs. Hannah Olsen, were also present, as well as a number of other grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Erastus Olsen was born at Manti, Utah, youngest son of Soren and Bertha Jorgenson Olsen, on the 1st of April, 1863. In 1889 he married Sarah Marchant Cox. There were ten children born to them, three having died in infancy. In 1898 he brought his family to Canada, living in Cardston for awhile, then moving to Aetna, he afterwards moved to Beazer where he bought a farm and raised cattle. He returned to Cardston for a number of years spending his time in the Temple. In 1906 he lost his wife, and carried on with the help of Grandfather and Grandmother Cox.
On April 14th, 1915 he married a second time, to Mrs. Hannah Jensen Scott, and they are now living at Beazer, near Mrs. Olsen's daughter, Mrs. Delbert Beazer. Mr. Olsen has fair health and still works around his garden, and can read without the aid of glasses. Two grown sons passed away within the last 10 years, of accidents: Melvin, in 1943 and Gane in 1948. He has, now living: 5 children, 38 grandchildren, and 40 Great-Grandchildren.
