Beej's Review:   Unusual, but very, very cool.  It's not so much jazzy as it is a mix of different styles of music.  Still, it is widely jazz.  The melodies are not set up like the "traditional" songs - the melody is the same but it's built around different rhythms.  For those looking for different versions of their favourite songs,  this is a must.  I ordered it for my sax teacher, a jazz lover (who, BTW, does not enjoy Sailor Moon as I do), and he seems to like it.  He feels some of the tracks are like elevator music, but also thinks they make good BGM.  Proof?  He's actually listened to it more than once, and apparently, he tends to throw it in his CD player once in a while while he's working on his computer.  PS. - the inside of the booklet tells you the solo instruments in each song.
  1. Moonlight Densetsu - Starts with a ethereal bass line with piano.  The melody creeps in with the flutes and eventually the whole band takes it.  A guitar comes in with the bridge and then back to more of the same.  Sounds like a house jazz combo.
  2. Star Light ni Kiss Shite - Afro-Cuban style.  Guitar has melody off the top and the brass do shots under the melodic line.  Very recognizable at the chorus (band takes the melody).  Never heard it like this before.
  3. Moon Revenge - A cool remix.  Most importantly, you can hear the melody clearly.  It starts on the low instruments and moves to the rest of the band.  Backing it up is a cool synth bass with a rock drum set - think Mission: Impossible (movie, not TV series).
  4. Otome no Policy - Harmonica takes the melody and the harmony is a light synth piano.  Minimal drums - just hi-hat and the occasional snare shot.  Brass and woodwinds have shots after each portion of the melody line.
  5. Koisuru otome wa Makenai! - Swing jazz with cool swing in the saxes and brass.  The flute has the melody for the most part, but plays it very laid back - and also has a cool solo in the last part of the piece.  Elements of Ai no Senshi were brought up in the bridge.  A happy song.  Originally appeared on the "PC Engine Sailor Moon" CD single.  Thanx for the info, James!
  6. Fire Soul Love - Accurately portrays the urgency of the original song.  The saxes play the melody at the top and do it perfect.  Guitar jumps in with the bridge.  Good upbeat song - meant for cruising around with the bass turned WAY up.
  7. Ai wa Energy - Another happy song and a very good rendition of it.  Laid back, gentle, and one of the best tracks on the CD.  It has kind of a reggae feel.
  8. I am Sailor Moon - The Alto flute has all the melody, which is played like the original.  A slow ballad, in stark contrast to the fast paced original.   This track is also really good.
  9. Tuxedo Mirage - The beginning is awesome.  The tenor sax handles the verse and the harmonica jumps in at the chorus.  The melody is true to the original and is very, very good.  Of course, the fact that this is one of my favourite songs has nothing to do with my review ^_-.
