Beej's review: I said I'd eventually
get around to reviewing this CD and I finally have! ^_^ This
CD is quite good, although I prefer "Sailor
Moon Music Fantasy" to this one. There are a few tracks which
are quite catchy, so it's not like it's a wasted purchase. With lots
of original BGM, I've found you have to listen to them a few times before
you can judge them. Unfortunately, I didn't follow my own advice
when first listening to this CD, and consequently, it ended up in my CD
case more than in my player. It may not be cruisin' music, but it
deserved more than that . . .
-
Moonlight Densetsu (instrumental)
- this was quite deceiving. When it starts, it sounds nothing like
Moonlight Densetsu, but once you get past the first minute of "disco intro",
you get what you're waiting for. It retains the same disco beat,
the strings play the melody, but the rest of the song is virtually the
same. During the bridge, a trumpet (à la Tuxedo Kamen, eh?)
takes the melody. An interesting rendition of the classic.
-
Fly Me to the Moon -
this is not the jazz classic that is now the ending theme of "Neon
Genesis Evangelion". The only similarities these two share are the
title. This is a upbeat J-Pop song, with all the orchestral accouterments,
which has nice vocals and has a catchy melody. I just wish they could've
used a different title . . .
-
Uranus and Neptune -
despite the title, this is not the Outer Senshi henshin sequence, although
it does share some of the melody. Instead, this is a Latin sounding
track, with low tone violins (could be violas), timbale, and Spanish guitars.
Since the melody is close to the henshin BGM, it naturally is very catchy.
If you enjoy "Knight of Tuxedo" on "Sailor
Moon Music Fantasy", then this is a track you should definitely hear.
-
Rendezvous - a very understated
song, but quite good. Featuring a solo flute playing over a classical
guitar, piano, and strings. Some brass are also added here and there,
while the drums are a light bossa nova beat
-
Chibi Usa Henshin! -
pretty much self explanatory . . . Sailor Chibi Moon's henshin BGM, but
it's an extended cut (2:57) with a wicked sax solo and electric guitar
solo in the middle!
-
Usagi - a very whimsical
swing piece that is instantly reminiscent of Usagi (and Minako, in certain
episodes ^_^). Played on harmonica, and backed up by a Dixieland
ensemble, this track is very entertaining. I guarantee it'll bring
a smile to your face! ^_-
-
Pure no Kokoro - a very
sweet and relaxing piano melody with a soft strings accompaniment.
-
Seigi no Tatakai - Yes
yes yes, I know there are parts in this track that sound like the theme
from "The Legend of Zelda" - just go with it. Other than that, it's
quite a catchy tune, with the signature "Sailor Moon" disco beat and orchestral
instrumentation.
-
Aku no Tatakai - Now
we get funky! ^_^ Some kick-ass harmonica and wicked vocals!
Yes, that's right - there are vocals! However, they consist of guys
with low voices saying "down down duhdown", but in a very funky way!
Coupled with a Hammond organ, rock drum kit, and some samples of guys saying
"Doo, DooDoo" at unbelievably low pitches, it's a wicked rock song and
probably the only one worth cruisin' with the bass turned up! ^_^
-
Chibi Moon - a pretty
good song - I just cannot figure out why it's called "Chibi Moon".
Oh well . . . it's a great sax melody over piano, strings, and drums.
Later, flutes come in to take the melody. The song has a sort of
perpetual motion to it - the drums keep the music moving and you end up
feeling as if you're going somewhere while it's playing . . . It's a very
weird feeling.
