Fire Pit Insert

A fellow I know came to me looking for a fire pit insert for a relative's cabin. He already had the oil drum, but was looking for a removable grill surface, and a removable pot-hanger to be mounted above the top of the barrel.

Here's the pics of what I came up with. It involved quite a bit of welding, but the end product was fairly user friendly.

I used some of the left over pipe from the muffler project, and a load of 1/4" rod.

A length of 1.5" pipe is bolted into the barrel at top and bottom with 3/8 carriage bolts. The octagonal grill surface attaches (with braces) to a piece of 2" pipe which pivots on the vertical pipe, and rests on a stop welded onto the side of the spine pipe. The pot holder slips into the spine pipe, where it rests on a 1/4" bolt attached through the pipe.

If anyone wants more info in order to make one, send me an email. I'll gladly provide it.
