Been an Amateur Radio Operator since 1986. First call was VE3OVY. Lived in New Zealand from 1996 - 2004 and was ZL1OVY. In January 2004, moved to Victoria BC Canada and my new callsign is now VE7OVY. Celebrating 20yrs of being a ham, i was issued a 2-letter call, VA7FE. I honour my Grandfather Jasper, VE3FE (SK) by having the same suffix as he did. Since i was adopted at birth, i never new my biological grandfather was a ham. It was only after being reunited with my biological family in 1999 that i discovered i have ham radio in my blood!
My interests within ham radio include:
* Making world-wide contacts via HF (short-wave) radio - rag-chewing & DX contacts.
* Satellite, weak signal VHF/UHF SSB contacts.
* APRS (Automatic Packet Radio System). Tracking my vehicle - click HERE Watching my weather station
* Vintage Radios: Some of my radios are older than me! Just love the smell of dust on the tubes as they heat up!
Check out my SHACK CAM! If I’m in the radio shack (weekends 9-11pm) you will see a pic (updated every minute).
