ASSOCIATION OUTING

Early each summer Association member Ron Chappell plans a vintage camera shoot at a specific location or with a specific theme.

Cameras must be 50 years or more old and we discourage Leicas after one summer when every participant used this camera. You can use up to two cameras and submit up to three pictures from each camera — colour, black and white, any size, mounted or not. Digital scanning and printing are permitted but not digital manipulation — beyond basics that could be done in the camera or darkroom.

All members at a subsequent Association meeting judge the pictures (yes you can vote for yourself). Pictures are laid out on tables with the actual camera(s) used. We used to have a framed hologram plaque for the winner but it went missing as did the medals our past president Rolf Eipper organised. So the only reward is getting listed in the newsletter and this website. Ideas for prizes or awards are welcome.

The selected venue will usually include getting together for lunch, sometimes dinner. We encourage meeting as a group before or after going out to take pictures but do allow, particularly in inclement weather, pictures taken subsequently.

2008 VINTAGE CAMERA OUTING Sunday June 8th, 12:30 pm

111-1141 W 7th Avenue, Vancouver. Cold lunch provided to 2 pm then participants can head anywhere along the False Creek Seawall, Granville Island or South Granville for the photo shoot or shoot in the morning. The Competition will be judged at the July meeting.

NOTE Park with care along West 7th or the cross-streets Alder and Spruce as there is Sunday enforcement of the designated residents-only spaces. RAIN in the event of forecast heavy rain the outing will be postponed until the following Sunday June 15th. Congratulations to Terry Cioni who won first place for his excellent shot of the New Westminster waterfront and the Royal City Star Casino boat shot with a vintage Rolleiflex. Second and third places both went to our Editor Peter Knowlden with two pictures taken with a 1950s Leica M3 — An abstract of a peeling brick façade and a giant toy soldier on the seawall.
