Who Are We?

The Lakeland FASD Society is relatively a new organization that has developed out of the Lakeland FAS Regional Committee who began in 1994 with the hosting of a FAS conference.  From this, the group continued to learn about FAS, developed tons of prevention campaigns, developed resources, training presentations, and hosted a dozen conferences.  The Committee soon discovered that they could not move much beyond this level of operation unless individuals could get an alcohol related diagnosis.  In 2000 the committee sent a team of people to Seattle to learn the U of W DPN model of diagnosis and upon return initiated the process with no funding – only in-kind agency contribution.  Funding was later secured through an innovation grant with Health & Wellness and the Centre was born.  The Centre is really a virtual centre as all services are provided in the community away from the offices.

Vision Statement:  The Lakeland FASD Society envisions a region with no new births of FASD and where currently affected individuals are well supported.

Mission Statement:  The Lakeland FASD Society will establish and ensure that information about FASD, prevention, diagnosis and support services are available in the Lakeland area.
