The diagnosis of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder is a very complicated matter and such services are limited in the province. The multi-disciplinary teams that come together a few times per month to see children and families are made up of a variety of professionals including: Pediatrician, Neuropsychologist, Speech Pathologist, Mental Health Therapist, Addictions Counsellor, Public Health Nurse, Social Worker, Aboriginal Liaison, Occupational Therapist, and the Team Coordinator. The positions are given to the clinic in kind from the various government and agencies in the region, with the exception of the Pediatrician and Neuropsychologist. The Team Coordinator is a full time employee of the Lakeland Centre for FASD. The coordination, referral, and information collecting role is completed by the Team Coordinators through the Lakeland Centre for FASD. The teams come together a few times per month. They review the documentation and follow the protocols as set out by the University of Washington, FAS Diagnosis/Prevention Network (DPN) which is then translated into the Alberta Medical Association for FASD diagnostic guidelines. The FAS DPN model in Seattle the first standardized model for diagnosis and is an accepted method of practice. The Centre has developed a clear policy and procedures manual on how to provide the diagnosis, assessment and intervention. Lakeland Centre Diagnostic Model
