The Lethbridge North Stars
Fastball Association began in 1962 when Mike Wyrostok and
Jake Milford decided to provide a place for fastball
players 16 to 20 years of age
to ply their skills.
The 1962 version of the North Stars was a bit of a rag-tag group with no permanent coach and no league to play in. Exhibition games were few and far between and the inexperience showed in the Alberta Junior Championships as they lost two games badly and went home. However, 1963 saw the North Stars enter the Lethbridge Major Mens Fastball League and, although they were trounced badly in many games against the Senior "A" and Senior "B" competition, the experience gained reaped dividends when the North Stars captured the Alberta Junior Fastball title. It was the first of three consecutive provincial titles for the association that grew from an idea hatched over a couple of beers and a couple of hundred dollars.
